Why do people equate homosexuality with pedophilia?

Because of ignorance and stereotype. Such an equation is a stereotype that's perpetuated since the 1950s. If you look it up on Youtube you'll find public service videos warning people about homosexuals, which depict gay men as being nothing more than pedophiles looking to pick up young boys. That kind of ignorant bigotry was spread around publicly so long ago and it influenced the mindset of the entire population to fear and hate homosexuals of either gender.

Pedophilia is a fetish or mental illness that has nothing to do with the perpetrator's sexual orientation. Instead, it has everything to do with their desire for sexual power and control over a young innocent victim and their seeking an opportunity to follow through with it. Rape is rape regardless of the age and gender of the victim.

Homosexuality is about the gender a person is most attracted to, just the same as any other sexual orientation, and has nothing to do with age or a desire for a child.

If people are going to equate homosexuality with pedophilia, then yes, they should also equate heterosexuality to pedophilia because it's at least as often, if not more often, that the victim is the opposite gender of the perpetrator.

Because they wish to show the world how hopelessly stupid they are. That's the only thing I can come up with. They're two completely different things that shouldn't even be said in the same sentence. I immediately dislike anyone who makes any sort of comparison between the two things, and I lose all respect for their intelligence if they cannot see the differences.

It's quite simple. Homosexuality is between to consenting people. Pedophilia is child abuse, and consent is not given.

My 2 cents on the subject is that around the mid 1970's, the group NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) was created. Once they were established they adopted a somewhat "in your face attitude" towards mainstream America, the group was a personal affront to the nuclear family, christian values and everything considered the norm in our society. With the explosion of the gay lifestyle in America around that same time (Anita Bryant and her crusade) and the beginning of "pride parades," NAMBLA actually started having a contingent that marched in gay pride parades which gave them media exposure. This exposure led to an increased awareness of how deviant and varied peoples sexual predilection's were becoming.

Men loving boys loving men may go as far back as Greek times, but one thing was certain: America was not ready to stomach such perversions and all around sexual deviance in the mid-70's and surprisingly, it is even more frowned upon in current times based on everything society has learned and witnessed with child abuse, etc

Because of this "latching" on to the gay movement by the pedos, I think it is a stigma which stuck and has never really made a clean break from the LGBT community.........and as far as I know there is no equivalent group advocating for men loving little girls....there may be one group for older women loving little girls, but it never received the press as the man boy group received..... and has probably shut down as almost all of these groups have (including internationally)

I think it is because all the well known cases that have been in the limelight over the last 20 years or so from sport coaches to scout leaders and clergy tend to have been men on boys.

Edit - I'm not at all saying men on female kids is not frequent. Again, all the big busts and press coverage has had to do with men or boys hence this attitude.

I've never came across people equating Heterosexuality with Pedophilia.

There are also homosexuals involved in Pedophilia too. You just cant say that hetoros are completly pedos.

Pedophilia is nothing related to our sexual orientation, you are attracted to very younger ones, independant of your sex.

Neither should. Pedophiles have been either hetero or homo and I don't believe there's a connection to either.

I would guess that the ratio between heterosexuals and homosexuals is roughly the same between hetero-pedos and homo-pedos.

It's a lazy way to get people to be afraid of and angry at gay men. If you're not a paedophile you find it disgusting, so if someone tells you that what gay men really want is to get their hands on children you're going to associate them with perversion.

It doesn't make sense in the slightest- gay men want adult men with adult bodies and an adult sex drive. It's exactly the same as saying that straight men all want little girls.

I personally equate homosexuality with pedophilia because I was recruited by an adult homosexual at the age of 11 years old.
