Smell coming up from shower?
I am on a septic system which was cleaned 6 months ago. Every once in awhile a bad sewer odor starts coming up through the shower stall. Plumbing was put in 7 years ago. It has been very dry here all Summer and I'm wondering if that has something to do with it? I have been pouring bleach down it and running the shower for 15 minutes and it seems to help for awhile. Is there anything else I can get that will help control this awful odor? I live alone so don't have a lot of water or fluids going into the septic system. I use Rid-X every month as well. Suggestions, please?

per code....every shower/tub has a p-trap, all p-traps must have water in them, considering your dry climate it smells like the p-trap is drying out which is the reason running the shower helps, you are filling the p-trap back up.traps should not dry that quickly, i recomend simple inspection of p-traps could be hairline crack or bad glue joint

Well, if temperatures are high, then that is probably the reason why you are getting that odor out from your shower. I think you shouldn't use the bleach with the Rid-X because one will overpower the other. You might have to wait awhile for temperatures to cool down so the smell goes down

Never use bleach, and to cut down on cost quit the RidX and use a cup of buttermilk flushed down the commode once a month. It will take awhile to get you system in shape now that you have used the bleach, so would put at least one cup of buttermilk down the commode twice a week for 2 weeks then once a week for two weeks then once a month thereafter.

RidX contains bacteria that help break down the contents of the septic tank. Bleaching the tank will kill the RidX bacteria.

Use Hydra HS Neutraliser to get rid of bad smells that come up from septic systems. You can use it through toilet bowl too.
