I am retired but about to return to work at a part-time job. I am an avid reader and my Kindle and iPod go with me every time I leave my house. I usually read at least one book a day. I no longer have pets and miss my big cat terribly. I have lots of friends and am close to family. We have had lots of crises and loss in my family and like to share what I've learned with others.

  • Safe to run dishwasher?

Had a broken water line outside and first test came back clear, but 2nd one did not. They will test again tomorrow. In the meantime I ran the dishwasher using the high heat sanitizing cycle and put vinegar in the final rinse. Went back and ran a rinse cycle again with 1/2 cup of bleach. Is it safe to use the dishes now do you think? Or should I leave them and re-wash when I have a safe reading.

  • F4 Tornado in Washington, IL?

I live about 12 miles from Washington, IL which had 1400 homes destroyed by an F4 tornado last Sunday morning. We also had damage to East Peoria and Pekin and other communities. It seems to have brought out the best and worst of people.

The shards hadn't even settled on the ground before looters were out picking through the rubble to see what they could steal.

The Red Cross and other agencies were out as soon as they had access and hundreds of volunteers were out in force. People have offered homes, money, vehicles, furniture, comfort, warmth, generators and whatever could be thought of to the precious people that survived.

Volunteers have come from across the nation and I want to publicly thank everyone who offered help, prayer, comfort, money whatever was needed. This is what America is all about. Helping each other! Thank you everyone.

  • Any one using Virgin Mobile?

I just got a new iPhone 5s and Virgin Mobile Service. I am in a "good" coverage area and it has worked well until this morning. I woke up and had absolutely no bars for over an hour. I now have 2 bars and can make calls. This is the only phone I have, I live alone, am older and have a medical condition that makes it very scary to have no ability to call someone for help.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? I want to make sure I get my money back within the 14 days if this is normal for Virgin Mobile.

  • Soles on Women's dress shoes thin and slick?

I would like to know why manufacturers' make women's shoes with such thin, slick soles! I'm not talking cheap shoes here either.

I just bought a new pair of shoes and I walked around in my living room on the carpet for an hour or so and they felt fine so I wore them to work the next day. As soon as I stepped out of the car onto blacktop my feet started to go out from under me. I thought maybe there was some dew on the ground but when I got inside to the carpeting I was sliding all over the place.

Had a similar problem three years ago and fell and shattered my elbow and required two surgeries. I can't return the shoes now and I am going to take them to a shoe repair shop to see if they can put some kind of non-slip surface on them. Anyone else have this issue?

  • Smell coming up from shower?

I am on a septic system which was cleaned 6 months ago. Every once in awhile a bad sewer odor starts coming up through the shower stall. Plumbing was put in 7 years ago. It has been very dry here all Summer and I'm wondering if that has something to do with it? I have been pouring bleach down it and running the shower for 15 minutes and it seems to help for awhile. Is there anything else I can get that will help control this awful odor? I live alone so don't have a lot of water or fluids going into the septic system. I use Rid-X every month as well. Suggestions, please?

  • Why are questions recycled?

I am seeing the exact same questions on Yahoo Answers over and over again. Why is that? It appears that they are just being recycled.

  • Kenmore won't kick out ice?

The ice maker fills with water and freezes, but the ice doesn't "kick out" like it used to and I don't hear the noise it used to make. I can go in and raise and lower the lever a few times or poke it with a screw driver and it will put it up a little bit and I can get it out by hand but I can't do that 100x a day or more to get a tub of ice out of it. Dispenser on the door for ice and water work fine.
