How can I stop Rottweiler from digging up grass ?

I have 2 Doberman and 3 Rottweilers. Only 1 of my Rotties digs holes in the grass and only at night. Mostly in the spot he sleeps or areas I have just fixed ! He has multiple comfortable areas to sleep but he prefers the wet gas. I water in the evening because daytime is too hot. I live in Hawaii and nights are warm. Im trying to avoid having to lock him up at night , I thought he would grow out of it by now since he is nearly 2. He is the youngest of all my dogs and mother and sister dont have this habbit. He is loose 24/7 in a large yard and only does it during the night.

Some dogs dig because of boredom.

You have too many dogs and clearly they are left to their own devices outside in your yard.

Rehome 4 of the dogs to owners who will train and care for them and put some time and effort into training the dog you keep.

For the love of God spay and neuter the dogs. Stop back yard breeding them.

Rottweilers are powerful dogs and they need a lot of exercise. A walk around the block won't cut it. I highly recommend getting a dog backpack and putting some waterbottles in it so he has a job when he walks. It gets rid of more energy as well.

It is either boredom or chasing gophers, but either way I'm pretty sure exercise will cure it. My dog used to do the same thing but stopped when he got longer walks.

Rawhide chews might work as well, though not as a substitute for walks/runs. =)

Dogs do not grow out of things. Your dog is very bored and needs exercise.
