Can I, and should I switch SECF to EOD in the Navy?
Hi everyone, I am going to the Navy! I'm currently in DEP and my job I picked at MEPs is SECF (which is FT, ET, or ST). I was not offered EOD which isn't a bad thing because I like the sound of SECF. I was told that while I'm in basic ill be asked if I'd be willing to go EOD, is this true? I am not 100% on switching if I could. I just want to know if I can. Also, if anyone can tell me if SECF is a good job route in the navy, that would be welcomed. Sorry for the layered question. I admire both routes either way, but I rather have experienced sailors/ Officers tell me if Im crazy and what's what haha. Thanks everyone!

First, I do not know whether SECF is a "Hard-to-Fill" rating or not (ET was undermanned at one time); if it is, then you won't get approved to transfer to EOD.
If you were not offered EOD before, then you probably did not meet all of the requirements for EOD. And if you did not meet the requirements in the first place, then you won't get approved to transfer to EOD.
Keep in mind that EOD has a very long and difficult pipeline; hope you are prepared for it.

yes, you will have a chance to take the PST while in basic
just remember, making anywhere near the min PST score, is NOT gonna get you the job
For EOD a competitive PST is
500 meter swim - 9:30 min's
push ups - 75
sit ups - 75
pull ups - 14
1.5 mile run - 10:00 min's
2. but you need to remember, if you switch to EOD -- your giving up SECF
so if you washout of EOD -- you do NOT go back to SECF
you go to the fleet as a undesignated seaman
