What is this movie I am describing?
I watched a movie when I was really young which I don't know the title to. Basically, there was this massive circular portal which was broken. This guy (archeologist guy, perhaps) fixes the portal and goes through it, taking him back in time. Unfortunately, I can't remember the main part of the movie but I remember the guy who fixed the portal decides to stay with the people back in time.

"Stargate" with Kurt Russel. This was the basis for the several different sci-fi shows. The gate actually didn't transport anybody back in time, but was instead a dimensional portal, and in the film, it takes them to a place that closely resembles ancient Egypt.
