Drivers license questions I need answered fast?

In mid July I did the pay by mail in California to have my California license renewed and they were supposed to mail me a new one. I moved to Michigan in mid August but at that time I never recieved my license in the mail. The license expires on September 21st and I am wondering what I can do about it.

Do I go to the DMV in Michigan and ask them if they have record of my new California license and if they do could there be a way I could have it mailed to Michigan? Or do I need to get a Michigan ID? Also the day my license expires does that mean I can no longer use it again?

Update:

Also let me say I plan on moving back to Cali in January. I don't have my social security card with me either it is in a safety deposite box in Cali.

Are you still getting mail picked up in California? If you aren't, mail from CA DMV will be returned to them, not forwarded.

I'd suggest calling them. Telephone: 1-800-777-0133

Best bet is to go to michigan dmv and tell them you moved there from cali and need to get a license. They should give you all you need to do so.
