Why are Irish people so small-minded (I'm Irish)?

They gossip and back-stab each other constantly, especially in small towns, and have no opinions on wider global issues.

    Maybe that's a generalization... but you talk about "small towns" and that might be a "small town" thing since they live in "small towns"... I mean so many global issues don't concern them at all...
