what should I do if I stepped on a rusty nail?
Actually I got scratched by one about 15 minutes ago, but it made my foot bleed and I'm trying to do everything that I can do to prevent anything bad from happening. So when I got home (about 3 minutes after I got scratched by it), I began to run very hot water on the wound. Then I poured rubbing alcohol on it, then i took a shower, now I'm soaking my foot in rubbing alcohol...I am going to pour some hydrogen peroxide on it in a second probably. Any of this stuff a good/bad idea? What else should i do before I can see a doctor for a tetnis shot?

Tetanus is more prevalent with puncture wounds.Had you stepped directly onto the sharp point of the nail it would not have bled much therefore more likely to give you tetanus. It is always wise to keep your tetanus shots up to date.

Sounds like you did what i would've done. But if you haven't had a tetnis shot in a while you better go see your doctor.

Wash your foot and keep the area clean. If you tetanus vaccinations are not up to date then you need a booster shot.

The only other thing you can do at this point is to apply antibiotic cream to the area and keep it clean.
