Bounds of measurements homework?

The side of a square hand made glass tile is 40 cm, measured to the nearest cm.

a) write down the least and greatest possible values of the length of the side of tile.

least value........cm greatest value........cm

b) six of these tiles are arranged in a rectangle for display.

If something is 40 cm to the nearest cm then it cannot be less than 39.5 (otherwise it would round to 39) or more than 40.5 (otherwise it would round to 41). If you put six of these items together to create a rectangle then the rectangle will be 2x3. The longest side (3) will need an allowable length of 3 x 40.5 (in case all squares are oversize).
