If freedom of speech is not a right as some on YA would imply?

Freedom of speech is the right to legal speech without government censorship.

That's all it is and all it ever was.

Legal speech is, of course, not illegal speech.

Illegal speech - libel, slander, defamy, perjury and etc - have no such protections.

Instead, they're prohibited (and punishable) by law.

For some bizarre reason, few people know this.

Either it's not being taught in schools anymore, or else kids nowadays are too stupid to learn it.

Which is why Yahoo always has disgruntled users who've had questions deleted freaking out about their free speech rights being denied.

Apparently, none of those brainiacs realize Yahoo is not the government.

Like all privately owned & operated websites, free speech rights don't apply.

The concept is simple....YOUR rights can not violate someone else's rights.......

Example.....your right to free speech .....yell "FIRE " in a crowded theater...... could cause a panic and deprive others of their right to life.....ergo our right of "free speech" is curtailed

Yahoo has a business.....they pay THEIR money to support this web site..... if you write the wrong things they could lose their business (money)...... your free speech deprives them of their rights.....ergo they have the right to limit your free speech on THEIR forum...... You still have your right to free speech .....you just do not have the right to demand they pay .....if you want to say something forbidden on YA.....you still can by buying your own web site and printing it..... a lot of obnoxious people have web sites......

Ebay does not allow the sale of " NAZI " memorabilia ..... they own and pay for the site.....they control that site..... but you are free to start your own site and sell all the Nazi stuff you want.....

but you have no right to demand Ebay pay for your site

Laws and regulations are there to protect society....... if you do not like societies laws you are free to go to a society that accepts your behavior....I was not allowed to marry outside my race..... miscegenation..... in Georgia..... (1963)..... so I went to South Carolina...... the law was later challenge as an unwarranted infringement of peoples rights....and thrown out

You have a right not to be discriminated against..... we have no right to exclusive privileges ...... if society gives a right to one.....that right is open to all..... if society curtails the rights of one.....that curtailment must apply to all......

If you have the right to be married....to share your life with the person you love.....then ALL of us have the right to be married and share our lives with the person they love..... marriage is NOT a religious concept unless you make it one.....marriage is a "social contract" with benefits .....everyone has a right to get married and enjoy those benefits
