A "Pragmatic Conservative"...... I support some liberal issues not because they are right .....not even because I like them......but because they are the only realistic option.... partisanship is unintelligent..... facts create reality. Thirty years in the military..... in the mud and the blood of two wars.....taught Military Science and History at two universities..... went in as a Private....worked my way through the ranks to Captain..... Airborne Ranger Special Forces Happily married.....no children.....

  • Why do we not honor our nations heroes?

We have stamps honoring Presidents, explorers, scientists, writers.....even Mickey Mouse.... But we do not have a series of stamps honoring Congressional Medal of Honor awardees.....In fact I know of only ONE stamp that honors two medal of honor winners from World War II ? ! !....Many of these people gave their life serving our nation..... and we can not find the time and money to show our appreciation with a series of stamps in their honor?????

  • I am curious as to WHY.....?

people on the computer are so mean and angry?

You post a simple question....... maybe you misspell a word or post to the wrong category..... or maybe you were tired and the question is sort of stupid and self explanatory.....People on here are vicious .....They call you all sorts of names.....!@#$#%$%^^&*(()...... Why all the anger and ugliness?....

Sometimes they will answer the question and then gratuitously add ...." !##$%^#@@&* F**KING IDIOT".....WHY?..... Is your life so miserable we have to attack other people in order to feel good or powerful....

And what ever happened to the English language.....are we so limited on time we can not spell out "you are" and have replaced it with U R.....we don't even have time to be mean in complete English we must do it in "shorthand"

And finally..... When someone comes on the board and they obviously speak another language other than English..... and they make some grammar or syntax error..... people on here attack them as "stupid".....when actually they are often more intelligent than the person who is attacking them....they at least usually are functioning in more than just one language......

I do not agree with "Lind" very often....but she posts in English when her language is Farsi..... I hate to think how messed up the board would be if ANY of her critics tried to post questions in her language....

Why don't we have some compassion.....some understanding..... give intelligent advice and be supportive of others rather than vomiting all this anger and ugliness......

  • What is wrong with this simple solution to the nations medical problem?

It keeps more money in your pocket.

It provides instant healthcare to every person in America.

There is no government bureaucracy needed.

SOLUTION; The IRS notifies every doctor and medical facility in America..... they are authorized to deduct a percentage of their tax burden for every pro-bono (free) medical case they treat......the amount deducted will be in a ratio to the market value of services provide. Indigence will be verified by the patients tax status or unemployment benefits. Everyone is required to file taxes, even those with no employment or income. The entire program can be supported by the existing government infrastructure.....no new agency is required. No new taxes are required it is largely self funded.

Medical personnel found to be padding the books with false indigent patients will be heavily fined and those fines used to support the system.

  • OBAMANOMICS....Good or Bad ?

Let’s accept the fact that President Obama stepped into office 2009 with a bad economy. Now let’s see what he has done about that economy since taking office. He had complete control of Congress for the first year and could do anything he wanted. The Republicans could do nothing to stop him.

    Look at the statistics

    ITEM 2009 2011

Price of gas (average) $1.83 $4.05

    Unemployment 7.6 9.4

    Unemployment (long term)(millions) 2.6 6.4

People in poverty (millions) 39.8 43.6

    Food Stamps (millions) 31.98 43.2

    National Debt (trillions) 10 14

In the last two years we have accumulated national debt at a rate more than 27 times as fast as during the rest of our nation's history.

Metaphorically speaking, if you are driving in the right lane doing 65 MPH and a car rockets past you in the left lane 27 times faster, it would be doing 1,755 MPH!

Can we afford another four years of Obamanomics?

  • Should voters be required to prove their citizenship / identity ?

Should voters be required to prove their citizenship / identity ?

Is it not a form of hypocrisy when a politician can not accept money from foreign campaign donors but it is legal for him to have foreigners / non-citizens vote for him.

Over 30 states want some form of voter identification. The left maintains that there is no "voter fraud" of any significant size..... How do they know? There is no way to know the amount of election fraud with the current system. I know of one case where two people who had been dead over a year voted? In another case a man registered his "dog" to vote.

The argument against voter registration is some people do not have identification..... Is it not time for them to get some identification?

Which is better..... losing the vote of people so un-involved they can not take the time to get an identification card or allow possibly millions of non-citizens vote

we do not allow non-citizens to be President but we make it easy for non-citizens to vote for the President?????

  • Should people receiving any form of entitlement from the government be required to pass a drug test?

If they can afford to buy drugs; why am I paying for their milk?

I had to endure thirty years of unannounced drug tests in order to keep my job..... Shouldn't they at least meet the same standards I had to maintain?.....Are we helping them to be healthy productive citizens by indirectly paying for their drug habit?

  • Is this normal??????????????

Maybe I have led a sheltered life. Are their any mature well adjusted grown men out there that "horse around" and take showers with young boys? Is this behavior that a lot of grown men regularly do?

I spent years in the military where I had to take communal showers with men my own age..... and even then I was not completely "comfortable". But showering with children NEVER occurred to me.

Am I abnormal..... is this common behavior

  • Why do people....liberals in particular.... hide from debate / discussions?

Time and time again I have engaged people in a discussion / debate on an issue.....Presented facts and proof.....only to have them call me childish names..... make outrageous statements.....then block any further communication...... The latest was a lady(?) who calls herself " T O "..... she claimed there were no WMDs....the Wikileaks document dump proves otherwise.... not to mention a host of other sources.....

She claims Bush was / is a "war criminal" yet a Swiss jurist verifies Bush did not break any international laws.... not to mention the fact everything he did was known and approved by Congress ..... and ultimately the American people (he was re-elected).....

The sign of a truly intelligent person is a thirst for knowledge.....a quest for truth..... a willingness to debate

How many people have you blocked ?....... Why did you block them?.....Are you a liberal or a conservative?......

Despite being called childish names...... accused of outlandish crimes...... slandered and defamed ..... followed and attacked on other posts.... I have never blocked anyone....nor hidden my profile in part or in whole..... I welcome other / conflicting opinions.....I sometimes learn things

  • President Obama said and the Health Care Bill reflects specifically....?

...No illegal aliens can receive benefits under provisions of this bill

How does this square with the Constitution and the Supreme Court which both say you can NOT deny public services based on citizenship. Illegal aliens are eligible for ALL public services.... If the ACLU challenges this provision it will be thrown out and illegal aliens will be covered by the health care bill.

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS: As a "Constitutional Law Professor"..... shouldn't President Obama know that barring illegal aliens from public services is "un-Constitutional ? Do you think the President Obama lied to us? What kind of debt will we incur when 11 M illegal aliens apply for government assistance under this bill?

  • How many times must President Obama be wrong before we realize he does not know what he is doing?

OBAMA'S OWN WORDS ....from his rash inaccurate uninformed statements he made about campus police and their actions..... to his latest 'triumph" (?)

2008: "Navy Seal Team 6 is Cheney's private assassination team."

2011: "I put together Seal Team 6 to take out Bin Laden."

2008: "Bin Laden is innocent until proven guilty, and must be captured alive and given a fair trial."

2011: "I authorized Seal Team 6 to kill Bin Laden."

2008: "Guantanamo is entirely unnecessary, and the detainees should not be interrogated."

2011: "Vital intelligence was obtained from Guantanamo detainees that led to our locating Bin Laden."

Just reread President Bush's statement about the capture of Saddam..... He gave the military credit for doing a good job

Just reread President Obama's statement about the killing of Osama.....He gave himself credit

Now he is running on a slogan "Re-elect the man who saved America"...... 40,000,000 unemployed Americans do not feel "saved"..... He gave billions to those making under $250,000 a year.....and did not create one REAL job with that money.....

In the dictionary next to the word "incompetent" is Obama's picture....... even Palin could do a better job

Are you going to re-elect this "failure"?

  • Help...........??????????????

I am going to a Philippine wedding Saturday.....Can anyone translate the following into Visayan ?

    Please

There is only one treasure that is beyond all price. This treasure can not be dug out of the ground like gold or silver. It can not be bought like diamonds or pearls. No bank will try to keep it in their vault but it is the greatest , rarest, most valuable treasure in the world. Everyone wants it ….but few have it.

That treasure is LOVE…. If you are lucky enough to have love in your life do whatever you can to preserve it….protect it…. Properly cared for, it can perform miracles….If lost or throw away you may never see it again.

You can neglect gold it will not tarnish. You can neglect diamonds they will always sparkle. BUT love is so very fragile, so delicate it must be protected and nourished every day. Always find a new way to express your love in actions not just words.

  • Military Experts....Tell me why....?

I retired in 1988.... since then I have paid some $13 @ month ( over $3,588 ) to some mysterious California dental plan....I was never asked if i wanted this plan..........to my knowledge I never authorized this deduction..... the few times I have sought dental help..... I was disappointed.... the Army removed a molar rather than repair it because they were ONLY authorized to extract not repair..... I got ONE free cleaning (not a full cleaning )....refused cleaning beyond that one time...... Had to personally pay for all dental support after that......

When I tried to get the deductions stopped....I was given a run around..... "we can not stop this"

I am paying $13 @ month for NOTHING?????

Somebody educate me....What am I missing?

  • Can you argue with the simple wisdom of Milton Friedman?

President Obama is using an economic model taken from the 1800's to solve our current financial crisis. It did not work for FDR (USC study revealed he kept us in the Great Depression ten years longer than necessary) What he did was the same thing President Obama has tried unsuccessfully to do; use Keynesian economic theory and "workfare"...as opposed to welfare.... to solve problems. He has put a bandaid on cancer. He has created a dependent society. Globalization has made Keynesian economics worthless in solving domestic economic problems.

Government social programs are least effective, least efficient way of solving our problems.

Milton Friedman....a MODERN Nobel Prize winning economist (not outdated like Keynes).... supported "supply side economics" "trickle down economics", "voodoo economics"... rewarding the rich not punishing the rich..... He believed in a free market system ..... and limited government

Here he takes on Phil Donahue....the classic socialist

  • Noticed something.....maybe you can answer WHY ?

Liberals hardly ever allow emails.... will block conservatives in a second.....they claim they "get harassed"..... what is the delete button for ? ......and they do not like FACTS prefer a link to an opinion.... which matches theirs of course

If you challenge them they usually say, "You have a right to your opinion. We will just have to disagree" If you offer FACTS they can not challenge.....they ignore them and cite completely different arguments ...... trying to get an intelligent debate with a liberal is like trying to nail Jello to the wall

.... it gets very messy and does not work

  • Is this a sign of the changing times?

While surfing the internet I stumbled across an interesting site ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_congres... )...... TEXAS from 1845 to 1965 only had ten Republicans elected to Congress.....over 100 years of representation and almost everyone was a DEMOCRAT....

Today out of 32 districts.... only 9 are Democrat..... a HUGE shift in the way Texans think..... With 79% of America disappointed in President Obama's performance...... Do you think possibly that the nation is finally getting the word that Democrats do not have the answer...... that as compassionate as they are.... they are not equipped to solve problems and lead this nation forward

  • What are your thoughts on this? (Sarah Palin)?

Five myths about Sarah Palin 1. Palin cost McCain the 2008 election. She didn't. CNN's 2008 national exit poll, for example, asked voters whether Palin was a factor when they stepped into the voting booth. Those who said yes broke for McCain 56 percent to 43 percent. With her by his side, McCain's fundraising and support from conservatives improved.

    2. Resigning as governor was rash. When Palin returned to Alaska , she confronted three problems. The political coalition on which she had based her governorship had collapsed. Her critics were using Alaska's tough ethics laws to launch investigations into her behavior, sapping her finances and her energy. Finally, every time she traveled to the Lower 48, Alaskans criticized her for putting her political interests above the state's. Palin's solution was to resign. Her agenda stood a better chance of passing if Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell succeeded her as governor. As a private citizen, meanwhile, Palin could make enough money to pay her legal bills.

    3. Palin and the tea party are destroying the GOP.The reality is that Palin and the tea party are saving the GOP by dragging it back to its roots and mobilizing conservative voters. Remember, by the time Palin arrived on the national scene, the Republican Party was depleted, exhausted and held in disrepute. An unpopular war in Iraq, an economy in recession and GOP corruption had driven away independents. Meanwhile, massive government spending and a liberal immigration policy had dispirited conservatives. In the wake of Obama's historic victory, she and countless other grass-roots activists could have abandoned the GOP and turned the tea party into a conservative third party. They didn't. They decided instead to refashion the Republican Party from the ground up, pressuring it to live up to its limited-government ideals. Now, two years after Obama's win, Republicans have reaped major gains in the midterm elections. Palin and the tea party haven't hurt the GOP one bit.

    4. Palin is extreme. On many of the most important issues of the day, Palin holds positions that are squarely in the center-right of American political discourse. And many of those positions, not incidentally, are held by a large segment or even a majority of the public. For instance, neither the public nor Palin believes the stimulus worked. While most Americans may not share Palin's views regarding "death panels," many join her in opposing Obama's health-care overhaul. Over the past two years, Pew and Gallup surveys have tracked the public as it has moved to the right -- not on just one or two issues but on a whole constellation of issues. Even on the controversial topics of abortion, guns and same-sex marriage, Palin is not far away from the center. A May 2009 Gallup poll, for example, found that a majority of Americans identified as "pro-life" rather than "pro-choice." In October 2009, Gallup measured record-low support for gun control. The public is divided on same-sex marriage, with about half the country joining Palin's opposition.

    5. Palin is unelectable. Without question, a Palin 2012 campaign would be an uphill battle. Palin is unpopular -- massively so among Democrats, decisively so among independents. Even many Republicans don't believe she's ready to be president. But opinions can change. Look at the political resuscitations of Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and Hillary Rodham Clinton. If Palin works hard and runs an impressive campaign, wavering Republicans and skeptical independents may give her a second look. To earn that second look, she may need to find a big idea. It's hard to become president without one. Reagan had supply-side economics and the end of detente with the Soviets. George W. Bush had compassionate conservatism and the freedom agenda. Obama had national unity and hope and change. At the moment, however, Palin still expresses her agenda mainly in negative terms, focusing on her opposition to Obama and the Washington establishment. She hasn't defined her common-sense conservatism" in positive language. And she hasn't found a unifying, exhilarating theme. Then again, she just might get along without one. After all, a presidential contest is a choice. The public might not love Palin. But by 2012, Americans might absolutely despise Obama. Two more years of a bad economy and an unpopular Afghan war and anything could happen.
