Family question: do you think it's alright for a parent to curse their kid out?

I mean I can be disrespectful sometimes. I have said F you to my dad before and I'm not proud of it and haven't said it since. My dad on the other hand always tells me F you.

Is it okay for him to do that?

Do you think parents need to respect their children?

    Hi Louis,

In my opinion, parents shouldn't speak to their children is such a way. But obviously, your dad will make his own choices. I do wonder though, if he speaks this way to you, how does he treat you in other ways? I'd encourage you to talk to a school counselor or an adult you can trust, regardless.

It's not okay. This is a type of abuse. This is called verbal abuse. I was verbally abused when I was a child. It started out to verbal abuse and then it turns to emotional Abuse once it takes effect and starts making you cry. Verbal abuse is the start of physical abuse is when he puts his hands on you. Go tell a counselor at school. Counselors aren't suppose to notify anyone unless they believe that you are put in a dangerous environment, then they notify authorities. It is illegal to give away confidential information to anyone who is not authority (police, child protective services, etc.)

  • For me that isn't okay. I do think that parents need to treat their kids with respect.

You should not have said that to him but he should not always say it to you. There really is nothing you can do about it though other then continue to respect him.
