Why have my baby convict cichlids lost their stripes and colours?
My Convicts bred and I put the babies into another tank when they were a half inch long.
They are in the tank a month now, striving and doing great, but only today I noticed 3 dead ones and most of the rest of them have lost their stripes and are gone a dull colour, almost colourless.
It's a small tank, 40 litre with a heater and filter and I have recently just put in an aerator to help out.
I do water changes of 25 percent every 2 weeks, I'm not overfeeding, they get flakes and dried tubifex

if the tank wasn't properly cycled they've been going through a poisoning period, it's surprising you haven't' lost more
and every two weeks may not be often enough for the amount of food the tank gets, it's a really small tank.
test results would help diagnose any water quality issues.

The most likely problem is degraded water quality.
You need to increase water changes and ultimately increase the volume of water where the fish are kept. Obviously as the fish age and grow they are producing more waste and using more oxygen, thus degrading water quality faster and faster. 25% every 2 weeks is clearly not adequite to keep the water quality at a survivable level with the current stocking.
