  • 2002 Opel Zafira. Power steering stopped working.?

Bought 2002 Zafira , lying up for a year.

    Wouldn't start.

    Jumped to get home.

Mechanic changed battery to new battery.

    Changed alternator to re-conditioned alternator.

Now the power steering doesn't work , in fact it never worked as long as I owned the car.

  • why is there white smoke coming from my car after i changed the battery?

    I have a 2002 Opel Zafira 1.8 petrol.

It's been lying up the last year by the previous owner.

I changed the battery. Negative first , then positive and the positive terminal keeps sparking.

I got the car started and there's white smoke coming from the left side of the engine. It's coming out of the starter or the alternator , it's a cast iron unit with a load of copper wire inside....

  • I have a whistling noise coming from my engine when I accelerate?

    I have a 2003 Volvo S40 1.9 Turbo Diesel.

    140,000 miles.

I have the car 8 years.

Only 2 days ago I noticed a whistling sound that only happens when I accelerate.

Now the car is blowing black smoke from the exhaust and there is no power, can't do over 50 mph.

  • What is a good starter motorbike?

I've been looking for a while , it seems like there's an awful lot to choose from.

I need something for 35 miles per day.

I was thinking 100 -125 cc, I would rather a motorbike than moped, something with gears.

  • Should my large Electric Blue Jack Dempsey be showing some breeding interest in the other Jack Dempseys?

I have a 5" Electric Blue in an established set up and I have introduced some smaller standard Jack Dempseys 3" long.

The smaller fish are showing some "courting" activity like displaying to each other, side by side showing, jaw-locking , chasing etc.

Its a little difficult to see which ones are male or female because of them being so young but if they are showing signs of this activity should the larger Electric Blue be showing interest in them to breed?

  • What's the problem with my air con in my 2003 Volvo S40 diesel?

I have the car 9 years and it's only starting to give trouble on the fan on the aircon .

When I put the dial to the low numbers the fan comes on full blast.

Then I put it to the highest setting , it stays on full for a few mins and then lowers itself.

Then when I lower it down the fan goes into full power again.

It takes ages to heat up too

  • Why have all my baby Angel Fish fry died?

I have a large tank of Angel Fish and noticed two of them pairing off, so I took all the others out and put them into another spare tank.

The Angels bred in a black slate, some eggs went white, most of them were transparent .

I took out the slate and put it into a small tank for hatching. I set up an air stone beside the slate as advised online, the eggs hatched, fry became free swimming, I fed them very small amounts of liquid fry and baby brine shrimp in a yellow paste I bought especially for them.

Changed a third of the water after 2 days of hatching.

After 4 days of hatching, I had about 3 left which I couldn't manage to keep alive.

    Water temp 26 degrees.

    Canister filter in growing tank.

The growing tank was cleanse thoroughly before the fry went in, no detergents.

  • Why have my baby convict cichlids lost their stripes and colours?

My Convicts bred and I put the babies into another tank when they were a half inch long.

They are in the tank a month now, striving and doing great, but only today I noticed 3 dead ones and most of the rest of them have lost their stripes and are gone a dull colour, almost colourless.

It's a small tank, 40 litre with a heater and filter and I have recently just put in an aerator to help out.

I do water changes of 25 percent every 2 weeks, I'm not overfeeding, they get flakes and dried tubifex

  • What happened to my Flowerhorn?

Bought him (12") and a Blue Acara(4") yesterday, put them into a clean, well established holding tank together.

Ph, ammonia, nitrates all fine, temp 30Celcius.

Before I went to bed I noticed both of them had eaten dried tubifex worms, all good.

During the night they were fine as I looked at them at 4am.

This morning 6:30 am, they were fine and when I came home from work the Flowerhorn was on his side, dead, rigid in the tank.

The Blue Acara is fine .

I know that the Flowerhorn may not be a particularly hardy species and the Blue Acara was not bullying him, so what happened, too much stress??

The holding tank is 120 litre, I was very careful acclimatising both fish into their temporary home.

A third of the water is established aquarium water 2 weeks old and 2 thirds of the water is the water in the big containers that I brought the 2 fish home in.

  • Is a Red Head Cichlid the same as a Synspillum?

I have a Synspillum Cichlid, probably a female I think, 8" Long , no hump on the head and I saw an advert for a Red Head Male Cichlid but it looks like a Flower Horn, there has to be some sort of connection between these 2 fish or even are they the same with some mutation, like for example , Oscars, Red Oscar , Tiger Oscar .

Please could someone with experience put my mind at ease!!!

  • Angel Fish eggs never survive?

The Angel fish spawn every 2 months or so, the eggs are laid on a pre cleaned rock or wide slate in the aquarium but after a few days the eggs perish.

Would it be possible that these 2 angels are female and 1 spawns but obviously the other one can't fertilise the eggs.

Come to think of it , I don't actually know if they are male and female.

  • My Jack Dempsey Cichlid fry have developed very swolen bellies, what's that all about?

    I have 10 Juveniles in a 60gal tank.

5 are about 4/5 months, getting their colours, developing perfectly.

The other 5 are about 2/3 months old and these ones have developed swollen bellies, they look bloated.

I am feeding them on crushed flakes, crushed up cichlid sticks and freeze-dried tubifex worms.

The fish are swimming and eating fine

  • I'm looking to buy my first pedigree dog, having a nightmare?

I have had cross breeds all my adult life.

When I was a kid we always had dogs, pedigree dogs, I'm looking for a large breed as I like to walk and take the dog with me.

I am leaning towards a Boxer , Dobermann or Bullmastiff but the more I read and explore these breeds the worse I feel about buying a large pedigree dog.

I am not interested in breeding or showing its just having a dog as a pet and member of our family that interests me

  • I was offered a Green Spotted Puffer Fish as a Fresh water fish?

I thought they were Marine Fish.

I didn't take the fish, but I'm thinking about it.

I have over 15 years in keeping Tropicals and Coldwater fish and I was wondering does anyone have one of these fish in a Tropical Fresh water tank, I did a little research and I have come to the decision that young ones are ok in a fresh water tank and as they get older they go into a brackish aquarium and then a Marine aquarium is needed, salt water, coral, skimmer and reverse osmosis unit, the while lot ???

  • Can someone please help me with a KOI problem?

This is the second time this has happened.

I looked into my pond and at first I thought my 8" Koi had dropsy, she was lethargic, motionless at the bottom , 5 foot down.

I took her out with my net and there was hardly a flicker of life. It turned out that it was not dropsy on inspection but she was absolutely bursting with eggs.

I have her abdomen a little squeeze and eggs came out, she died in my hands.

This is the second time in 6 months this has happened.

    My pond is 3metres x 3metres x 1.5metre deep.

The temperature of the water is 8 degrees, cold enough , I know , it is March , but all the fish survived the last 2 winters with no problems.

The water chemistry is fine, I tested for nitrates, nitrites and ammonia, all really below dangerous levels.

I don't have any hiding places for fish, this may be the problem.

Would the males have exhausted the female with chasing her whilst ready to spawn.

    I'm very disappointed!

    Thanks for answers in advance

  • Will Steel Seal fix my blown head gasket?

My Saab 2.0t petrol recently gave me the problem of a head gasket.

My mechanic changed the water pump as he thought it might be that, but he told me the engine's head gasket is gone.

I brought it to another mechanic for a second opinion and the second mechanic did a pressure test on the coolant system and and it failed so he clarified it actually is a head gasket gone.

I read about Steel Seel and I was wondering wether to give it a try or not.

    Has anyone tried it?

    Thanks in advance people

    Please help!

Yesterday he was fine , woke up this morning and my 4" Common was bent towards the left, stationary , at the bottom of my tank.

No movement from any of his fins.

Not even flapping around with his tail.
