Will Steel Seal fix my blown head gasket?
My Saab 2.0t petrol recently gave me the problem of a head gasket.
My mechanic changed the water pump as he thought it might be that, but he told me the engine's head gasket is gone.
I brought it to another mechanic for a second opinion and the second mechanic did a pressure test on the coolant system and and it failed so he clarified it actually is a head gasket gone.
I read about Steel Seel and I was wondering wether to give it a try or not.
Has anyone tried it?
Thanks in advance people

These "bottle remedies" are just a quick fix. The only way anyone can actually tell you if it is indeed your head gasket failed, is to remove it and inspect it. By which time you need to replace it anyway. You may find it needs the head skimming or the head may be cracked..... but the bottle won't tell you that.

As the others say, the only genuine repair for a bad head gasket is replacement. However, under some conditions head gasket sealants are a good way to go. The two major requirements are that the failure not be too bad and that you just need the engine to last for a few more months. There are also better products than Steel Seal. See the source.

This is only a temporary fix, there is no such thing as mechanic in the bottle. But....i do hear people swear by this product and you need to use it exactly as stated in the directions. remove the thermostat i believe is one item you must do, so if you need to remove the t-stat, then what does this tell you about what will happen to the radiator or heater core?
Repair the engine properly with new head gasket, only if the car is worth keeping, if older car with high mileage and other problems, then you may want to reconsider and start looking for a new replacement car.............gl

The only way to repair a bad head gasket is to replace it. Quick fixes are for people that get sucked in to the promise of saving money. All the crap will do is plug up the motor.
