I have a whistling noise coming from my engine when I accelerate?

I have a 2003 Volvo S40 1.9 Turbo Diesel.

140,000 miles.

I have the car 8 years.

Only 2 days ago I noticed a whistling sound that only happens when I accelerate.

Now the car is blowing black smoke from the exhaust and there is no power, can't do over 50 mph.

The turbo is fine one of the hoses going to the intake is split. The black is not caused by a bad bearing or carbon it is caused by the computer putting to much gas in the cylinders thinking there is boost pressure getting in also and there is no boost. Look at the hoses it will be easy to see.

All turbos whistle. Do you mean it changed?

Listen for leaks through a lenght of rubber tubing you can move around, to pinpoint the sound.

But if the turbo bearing is binding, that will block air and reduce power.

Might just be carboned up and need cleaning.

Good to take turbo off and look because the seal can leak oil into the exhaust.

If the turbo is bad, any big diesel truck shop can rebuild if for less than $300.
