What do you do when the secrets start to screw up your life?

Stop keeping them.

I wish our government thought that through. Kidding.

The only way they've ever really started to screw up my life is when anyone other than me knows about it. If it's something I have to get off my chest, or need advice about, I've got a number of very close triends that live in different cities and have little to no contact with the people I'm keeping secrets from. That makes it fairly easy to get off my chest or find answers to secret problems.

It's sort of a confessional for me. Which came in handy when a close friend was a senior level manager at a company I worked for and not only heard everything, but would share everything when we went out for drinks.

It took me awhile to learn this; but, I NO longer keep secrets. I've learned the hard way that NOBODY can hold you hostage in your OWN life IF you aren't hiding anything; so I'm notorious for telling on myself BEFORE anybody else can use it against me anytime in my life!!! IF I tell it first, I get to tell it MY way & then when somebody else tries to turn it into something bad, my friends & family just laugh at them because they feel they KNOW what REALLY happened!!!

I really have only one major secret

and it better not come out - if it does I do have a plan but it is one of desperation

I over analyze the secret and see if I can tell someone to trust to tell... That would make me better

Find someone you trust and open up. The more you reveal, the less it feels like what you're hiding has any real significance as a lie.
