If Christians live by the anti-gay Biblical verses, how come they do pay any attention to the sexist ones?

Ok before I start I'm not critising all Christians as some more liberal ones say the Bible actually teaches tolerance and words may have changed over the years in translation. I'm referring more to those in the Bible Belt.

This is a shocking anti gay quote from the Bible which recommends capital punishment for homosexuality:

Lev 20:13 "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death."

These are two even more shocking quotes from the Bible which point to female inferiority and I cannot name any Christian country which would adopt these values:

I Corinthians 11:8-9

"For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man."

Deuteronomy 22:28-29

''If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.''

You are alternating between the Old Testament and the New Testament. It is Christianity 101 to know that Christians are under the New Testament and Jews practiced the Old Testament.

Second, there is nothing "shocking" about I Cor. 11:8-9, as it pertains to a record of the order in creation. It is similar to saying that in the dictionary, men are listed before women. There is nothing shocking there.

I think you are trying to make the point that some Christians are not approaching their doctrines with equal mindfulness, and that may be true. However, I suspect that most Christians who teach that one cannot get to heaven living as in a homosexual relationship also teach that one cannot get to heaven living in a heterosexual relationship outside marriage.

Thank you for the question - have a good day

Lev 20-13........it was a time where God established his perfect commandments, in a world where everything was unholy (the history of those surrounding countries tell how far they were from the commandments) the goal was to eradicate ALL traces of any god-religion (lowercase) practices (homosexuality, fornication, all things he found to be unfit for man)

Cor 11:8-9.......woman was made for man!!!! This isn't sexist, ignorant men think women are beneath them, this says nothing about that

Deu 22:28-29......back then sex was meant for one partner, if this happened, he'll have to man up and take her as his own, the principle of one man for one woman was serious, this might seem radical nowadays, but them marrying is better than him and her defiling themselves by having sex with another partner (that would be much worse by Gods standard

There has never been a better time to put and end to the heartache of an unfulfilling relationship. You can rebuild the happiness and close connection, thanks to the life-changing techniques at https://tr.im/htIzj

Marriage, like life, is a cycle of ups and downs. It's easy to say your marriage is in good health when the world around you is prospering, but when your fortunes turn and your world is in hardship, how you interact within your marriage can often paint an altogether different picture.

1 Corinthians is true. Women was created for man.

The other two verses you quoted are from the Old Testament. Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament laws. Christians are no longer required to follow them.

The Bible says homosexuality is an abomination in both Old and New Testaments. It applied before and after Jesus.

The trouble is that the "conservative" Christians aren't clear on a lot of things. If we are under the Law, then we aren't in Christ, we are under the Law. So they have no business going to Leviticus as if we were under that Law, which was the Law of Moses; a covenant different than the one Christ brought.

Then, they go to 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, and try to make it into a "if you are gay then you are going to hell" message. That is not what those verses are saying. Those verse are telling the Corinthians good news, that culminates in verse 11 "as such were some of you, but you were washed", meaning, in Christ God doesn't look at you that way any more. It's good news, not bad news. Paul did want to encourage them not to be promiscuous, but we've left the "or you are going to Hell" message out. It's simply not what Paul was talking about.

So as a bisexual who is Christian, I can get the message of grace through faith, while the legalistic Christians (those who might be called "conservative") see the Gospel as being mixed of the Laws of Moses. That isn't the way this covenant works, according to Christ (see the 'new patch on old garment, new wine in old wineskins' teaching).

They hide behind antiquated verses to justify their bigotry. There are many parts of the Bible that we don't live by today and to choose one to fuel a pre-existing hatred is a manipulation of God's word. God will judge the bigots and they will have to answer to Him for the sin of hatred.

They dont pay attention to the sexist ones because they have "jesus" and god who will forgive anything and everything so basically they have a get out of jail free card for any bullshit move they choose. Thats why nobody pays attention.

With Christians (I am speaking for myself here) we resent gays trying to rule and coerce the rest of us like they are doing now in San Antonio.
