Trinitarians: John 8:58 has been used recently to say that Jesus said that he is Jehovah?

English Standard Version

Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”

Now, this SAME logic, another person MUST be put in the trinity!

Judges 13:11 At that Manoah got up and accompanied his wife and came to the man and said to him: “Are you the man that spoke to the woman?” to which he said: “I am.”

So, is Manoah apart of the trinity or not? Does this passage now make it a quadrinity?

I use this to spark reasoning, not for amusement.

Update:

Ok Chi Girl.....I take your WORD for it. Use Scripture. Jehovah is accepted as the transliteration of YHWH. That argument is.......dead!

Update 2:

God help us...

Revelation 1:1 A revelation by Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his slaves the things that must shortly take place. And he sent forth his angel and presented [it] in signs through him to his slave John,

This passage SHOWS us that FOUR different people will be speaking throughout this book

JESUS CHRIST revelation that GOD gave JOHN by means of an ANGEL. Whenever Alpha and Omega is written, that is Jehovah alone.

Good question. The so-called 'reasoning' behind this Scripture is ridiculous.

Many Bible versions render John 8:58 this way: "Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am."

And Ex. 3:14 this way: "God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And he said, "Say this to the people of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"

(Because of this, Trinitarians often refer to this as 'proof' that Jesus is the Hebrew GOD of the O.T.)

But are the words "I am" supposed to be God's name? Even if it were so, would it make sense in John 8:58 for Jesus to say the equivalent of, "Most assuredly I say to you, before Abraham was...JEHOVAH?!?"

Looking at the context, the correct phrasing of this sentence should be "I was" instead of "I am" when used after the word "before." Also in verse 57, the question to which Jesus was replying had to do WITH AGE, not identity.

During the exchange with the Jews leading up to John 8:58, NOWHERE DOES JESUS CLAIM TO BE GOD. And as we've already seen, the words "I am" at John 8:58 (including the blatant unwarranted use of capitalization) is not only inaccurate but nonsensical.

Several translations phrase John 8:58 the correct way by which Jesus was actually illustrating how long he has existed. One, for instance:

"Jesus answered, "The truth is, I EXISTED BEFORE ABRAHAM WAS EVEN BORN!" (NLT)

Besides that, numerous TRINITARIAN authorities even have to admit that "I am" in Ex. 3:14 is not even correct and should be rendered more like "I will Be" (the MEANING OF God's name rather than God's personal name itself...Jehovah):

    Encyclopedia Britannica:

"The writer of Exodus 3:14-15 ... explains it [the meaning of God's name] by the phrase EHYEH asher EHYEH (Ex. iii., 14); this can be translated `I am that I am' or more exactly `I am wont to be that which I am wont to be' or `I will be that which I will be.'" - p. 995, 14th ed., v. 12.

Manoah was the woman's husband. She had seen and spoken to an angel. The angel told her she would have a son and instructed her not to eat unclean foods or drink wine. She conceived and gave birth to Samson. Samson was not a virgin birth but Manoah's son. The Lord was strong in Samson as He can be strong in any one of us if we are willing. I'm not sure how you arrived at the "quadrinity" theory but I hope I clarified things for you.

    Manoah was just a guy.

In Judges 13 we read this: Israel is in Philistine bondage for forty years—An angel comes to Manoah’s wife and promises a son who will begin to deliver Israel—The angel comes again; he ascends in a flame from the altar—Samson is born, and the Spirit of the Lord moves upon him.

Manoah is not another member of the Trinity.

    and I'm a Mormon! :)

The Pharisees asked Jesus if he lived before Abraham--Jesus answered with a yes persay--he was not saying he was the I am in that verse. He said he lived before Abraham. Anyone who reads the words for themselves see the same thing. It has to be twisted into it saying that Jesus is the I am.
