Why do teenagers become atheists?

Theory A) Their parents lied about tooth fairy, Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, so why believe in Jesus?

There may be as many reasons as there are teens who do so -- I vere away from generalizing about folks I've never met.

Personally I did not become atheist till I was in my 30's so neither A or B apply. They may have become atheist for the same reason I did.

    C) They came to a logical conclusion based on facts that there are no deities and everything has a more logical explanation than just being poofed into existence.

It is called becoming an adult, and learning to live in reality.

Santa, tooth Fairy, god, Tinker Bell, all go in the pretend friend category.

Religion is not about rules, it is about money. Just one word, money.

Neither. I was 12 ands so technically not a teenager. I realised it was completely unreasonable and I have maintained that idea.

As a former catholic, I personally felt that the church really had no say in my life. Or the right to say anything about how I lived it, so I dropped the religion. Best decision I ever made. that, combined with the sheer absurdity of the 'holy book' pretty much showed me how full of **** adults are.

As an adult now, I can confirm that my fellow adults are also all full of ****. So when you think about it, it's just a combination of both.

Im atheist. Im also 15. So im atheist because I think its silly to worship someone so much. And everything is very unlogical. Maybe its a stage. But ive never believed in god. Even when I was little even tough my mom would make me go to church. My parents never told me about Santa or the Easter bunny. Id just see it on tv.

I do not for one moment think it's because 13-19 year olds are suddenly becoming incredibly rational. Corporations spend trillions of dollars annually betting on the utter irrationality of teenagers, and they aren't really losing money on that bet.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and bet on --

    C) Because Church is usually boring as hell, combined with the fact that it is now socially acceptable to be non-religious.

If you haven't noticed, adults are atheists too.

You did yourself a disservice by creating the internet. You've lost control of your people; the knowledge is too strong. You should write in the New Testament that internet is forbidden.

Theory C) Education actually worked for once?

    C. They are educated and intelligent enough to recognize that there is no such thing as magic, regardless of what mythology is being used to pretend that there is.
