Are we Americans being extorted by Obama?

President Obama pledged to end partisanship, but instead all I have seen in his presidency has been him exacerbating it. He recently accused House Republicans of being extortionists for opposing a raise in the debt ceiling and wanting to defund Obamacare.

Yet if you look up on Dictionary.com it defines extortion as "the crime of obtaining money or some other thing of value by the abuse of one's office or authority."

The president wants to raise the debt ceiling, threatening to curtail many government operations if the GOP doesn't surrender. Yet history shows Obama once held the opposite position about debt and ceilings. In 2006 Obama said: "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure." Really? What, then, does it say about his leadership now?

What do you think?

Thnaks in advance.

We were extorted by G W Bush. Taking us into a war we had no business in. Those often of lessor means are extorted by having their sons and daughters carry the weight so others could reap the rewards. When was the last time you saw a rich mans child serving or dying for their country? It's about time the cry babies on the right learn a thing or two about being slackers. Where is your civic duty to your country? One percent (1%) of Americans serve their country. The other dead beats profit and stuff their pockets. Then they have the gall to talk about others on welfare. I myself am against many kinds of welfare. Those living in glass houses should not cast stones. You want to call Obama an extortionist for trying to provide a health safety net for his countrymen. Republicans had 10 years of control to do something about it. All they did was kick the can. Now they are crying because something was done that had to be done. I am a independent that thinks libertarian. I see the issues not the party platforms or special interest. If the right had or have had better ideas then what have they been waiting for. You complain about direction and offer nothing better or even equal. Like republicans your not being constructive.

  • Nobody is happy with B.O. And the USA needs a libertarian as there will be no more war.

Kindly, USA consider libertarianism and peace, and do not insult us, thank you.

This is the Great British Royal Naval view from Portsmouth, UK, what do you think?

In 1773 some rebellious angry young men betrayed their King George at Boston.

In 1783 there was a meaningless treaty of Paris which the British refused to pose for.

There was a ridiculous tea party and an insane "declaration of independence" as

article six of the 1783 treaty was violated by rebellious gunmen the USA is false.

There was a 1799 invasion of Syria and Egypt by the imperial France and USA.

There was a Napoleonic defeat in 1805 and 1815 by Admiral Lord Nelson of the UK.

There was the American colonisation of the Philippines and Cuba and Puerto Rico.

There was a century or war then another, First World War, Second World War, Korean

war, Vietnam war, Cold War, hot war, Iraq war, Afghanistan war and now the USA has

been neutered finally by the Great Russian Bear and Chinese dragon with the Global

diplomatic support of the most excellent UK ambassadors who are all OK as war is

over. The Game is over and the USA now needs to retreat and repay it's debts.

How could current events be different if the "USA" had never been declared in 1776?

Kindly, USA people, answer this respectfully and do not insult us, thank you.

America seems to have a completely unique system of its President having to deal with others in order to carry out the policies he was elected to introduce.? No health service based on one part of it being money making (the insurance companies) can ever work if they are trying to get an affordable system, yet your President thinks the one he helped create is better than the others,so he should be given a fair chance.

In Britain anyone can have private health care if they wish. In London there are large private Hospitals

where people can pay insurance for if they want, choices in the menu, private rooms,a choice of their own doctor, but at the end of the day if they cant pay any more, then the National Health Service is there for them.

What a pity Americans don't demand such a system. It could be adapted to American needs but it would not use private insurance companies.

But I digress. Back to your interesting question. I don't think any elected American President would "extort" you,the very people he is sworn to serve ? But you must allow him to govern the way he feels best without looking at his every word and move. Will you do this for me,and for your fellow Americans ?

Obama didn't do that though, he offered a dialogue, and compromize, the Republicans made it very clear they didn't want to deal.

It takes 2 to stop partisanship, Obama tried, Tea Party blocked it, now let's move on.

He also talks about civility and yet he, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are the LEAST civil people in politics. I am appalled that there are STILL people gullible enough to be taken in by this corrupt, lying, dishonest charlatan.
