Would You Agree That Ron Washington has been out managed in big games?

I would say on the surface that Ron's a decent manager. Not great, but not horrible.

But hasn't he been consistently out managed in big games through out his career?

BQ. Washington is a minority. Did that have anything to do with his hiring or any decision to keep him? Couldn't this exact same team do better with some new ideas?

I am a huge Rangers fan. although Ron does do a great job, I did not like the pull of Perez for Ogando and maybe Baker should have hit for Moreland. Lots of things, but overall we went 12-14 in september i believe, we gotta do better than that to get into playoffs

Washington got owned by Bochy when the Rangers played the Giants in the World Series. He's not a very good manager when it comes to strategic moves, but like Clint Hurdle for the Pirates (another fairly incompetant manager), Washington provides great leadership in the clubhouse. He's a manager that players do seem to rally around and he develops that sense of team identity that great postseason teams seem to always possess. That alone makes him worth keeping around.

    BQ: Probably not.

  • Bobby Cox. A great manager, forever it seemed like,of the Atlanta Braves

Was supposedly out managed every post season for fourteen seasons, except one, when the Braves finally won a World Series.

I didn't hear any such nonsensical talk about his being incompetent and on his way out.

Get real! Just getting to the post season and/or the World Series takes good leadership and of course, some luck.

The Braves got great leadership but were usually luckless.

    So! Blame the manager?

Every manager gets outmanaged in a big game sometime. And really, how much does the manager affect the outcome compared to the players on the field?

by Bruce Bochy in the 2010 World Series,

by Tony LaRussa in the 2011 World Series

by Joe Madden in the 2013 "game 163"

Some of them for sure. Especially lately.

BQ I really don't think that being a minority has much to do with why he got hired or kept. Minority doesn't seem to play much of a part in baseball.

When you fire someone, you have to have someone else

in mind who could do better. Washington is a good baseball

man and should not be fired. Being a minority certainly works

in his favor in staying at Texas.

Perhaps, but last night's tiebreaker proves nothing with regard to this. The Rangers simply could not do enough against Price. He pitched like an ace is supposed to sometimes pitch, and there is nothing Washington could have done about that.

He doesn't hit and he doesn't pitch, so thats hogwash. He won the ALDS in both 2010 and 2011 and the ALCS in both 2010 and 2011, so how can what you say be true? Cut down on your drinking before you watch the game next time.
