If Andy Pettitte doesn't deserve to make the Hall of Fame . . .?

than what active starting pitcher does?

If his PED usage isn't enough to make you instantly vote against him, look at his career numbers. He has a career 117 ERA . Same exact as Mark Buehrle. Not exactly up to Hall of Fame level right there. Pettitte was merely a good pitcher who played on a lot of great teams.

Halladay and Sabathia are two actives likely going to Cooperstown.

Andy should probably go in. He is 100 games over 500 and every pitcher eligible who is 100 games over 500 has gotten in. He is/was a battler who knows how to win. Its amazing how little people know like one of the earlier posters. Pettitte's post season stats are exactly in line with his regular season stats, no better. Additionally it should be noted that when he went to a mediocre Houston team they got better and got to the World Series! He had three winning seasons in Houston to go with the fifteen winning seasons (or at least non losing) in New York. Jack Morris should probably be in too. Among current pitchers, maybe Halladay and Verlander and Sabathia if he can somehow right his poor pitching of this year. Everyone else, its too early.

Well, PEDs aside (I don't care about his usage personally, but then I feel that Bonds, Clemens and the rest should all be in), Pettite's pitching stats are nothing special (outside of wins). His ERA nearly touches 4, and his won-loss record can be attributed to the fact that he pitched for the most dominant club of his era.

The only reason Pettite should be considered for the Hall of Fame is his postseason numbers. While his regular season statistics are somewhat pedestrian, he's been an absolute postseason monster, and that's why I'd vote for him in the Hall.

As for who would deserve it more amongst active pitchers, the first name that comes to mind is Roy Halladay, who has much better numbers, even if he has about 50 less wins. He toiled for a terrible Blue Jays team for most of his career, which shows you the difference between being on a good team and being on a bad one. Pettite played for only great teams his entire career, and despite being the inferior pitcher, has 50 wins more than Halladay despite Halladay dominating him in every other pitching statistic.

Judging by what they've done and are likely still going to do:

    Roy Halladay

    CC Sabathia

    Justin Verlander

    Felix Hernandez

    Clayton Kershaw

After Halladay, Verlander, and Buehrle who are ahead of Pettite on stats at age. I could also list a handful of young guns including Price, Lester, Weaver and Kershaw.

But before Pettite goes in look at Jack Morris numbers and tell me why he isn't in?

He will make the Yankees hall of fame and thats about it.
