The Hobbit: The Shire is not mentioned?
So I've only seen all the films. But am now reading The Hobbit (and about to read L.O.T.R)
My Q is why The Shire is so often talked of in the LOTR films, but not mentioned in Bilbo's story in The Hobbit (book) rather, the Hill.
Considering Frodo etc go on about it all the time (in the films anyway) I'm curious.... :)

If they'd continually talked about "The hill" people wouldn't be sure if they were talking about home , the hill they were standing on , one of the dozens they'd passed, etc. By giving it a more specific name it made it easier for the viewer to understand.

It is possible that Tolkien had not yet invented the name. The amount of time between the publishing of the Hobbit and Fellowship was quite long.

I double checked and it first appeared in The Fellowship of the Ring, "Prologue" : "Concerning Hobbits". I know they spoke about Bag End in "The Hobbit" but The Shire was never named until LOTR.
