Are iPads worth buying?

I bought a Galaxy tab 2 7.0 last year. I'm a science major, and thought it would be useful for my research projects and note taking, however, it ended up being insufficient for what I need it for. I'm looking into buying an iPad instead. I want to know if it'd be worth buying or should I just stick with my Galaxy tab?

I don't like to carry my laptop around since I walk quite far to class every day. A lot of my professors don't allow laptops in class anyways, but they do allow tablets.

Update:

It is insufficient because the screen was only a 7" screen

I'd need to know what sort of insufficiency that you're mentioning before I judge whether an iPad is worth anything to you.

I'm not currently aware if the iPad boasts apps that are strictly on iPads only. And would be of any use for you too. The iPad would just be another tablet for you. The iPad would just offer a different OS and different colors of apps that does the same thing as the Galaxy tab (such as note taking, calculating, etc).

Edit: OK, so the problem is just the screen size. Well if you find an iPad that specifies of a larger screen than 7" than go for it if it is well within your judgement. I personally recommend going for the new Nexus 7 tablets. It may be cheaper and offer higher resolutions/bigger screens than your current one. Those Nexus tablets are a thing of beauty.

I'd say yes. I have an iPad and a Motorola Xoom running Android. The iPad is far superior, and iOS is much better than Android on tablets. The Xoom is an exercise in frustration that mostly sites in a desk drawer (and I'm a Linux user, so you can only imagine what it takes to frustrate me), while the iPad is used regularly. iOS has a much better app store, better apps, and is much easier to use.
