Is "Kay" typically a girls name?
I'm currently writing a book and was thinking of naming one of the male characters Kay. But according to Wikipedia, it's typically a girls name in English-speaking countries.
What do you think of the name? Does it fit a male or is it too feminine?

Kay is usually used as a girl's name; short for Katy, Katherine, Katrina, Karen, Kathleen, etc.
However, it can be a man's nickname, too. Kay was the name of King Arthur's foster-brother in the tales of the Knights of the Round Table. Sir Kay as he was known was always getting into trouble, but he was also the most sly of all the knights; full of street-smarts!

Typically yea. But I see no problem using it for a boy. Especially if it's just a book.
Spencer,Noah and Jake are typically masculine but that certainly hasn't stopped modern trendy parents for sticking them on girls.
On a side note, have you considered the masculine name Kai(KYE)

To me it is a girl's name. At least in the US. I am not sure about other countries.
For a book you could have the character's name be Kevin (or another "K" name) and have him go by "K".

Kay would not be a good male name.
Jay or Ray would be acceptable if you're looking for one that's not too macho.

Too feminine for a male character in my opinion. How about Kasey? ( it's unisex )

If your character is heterosexual and of strong masculine intent, then Kay is not the name for you or him. If it is otherwise, then fine. Maybe Kit would suit better.

It is a girls name. You can name him K and the reader will assume it is short for something. Or his parents named him a girls name.
