Why does anyone need to compromise on a bill that everyone agrees needs to pass and wants to pass?

Isn't that when negotiations stop...when both sides agree to something?

Nobody is denying the debt ceiling needs to be raised. The bill to raise it is complete and fair.

Republicans are taking a deal that is fair, and adding "and I'm going to need your sister for a night, and if you disagree, I'm putting our failure to pass a fair deal on you"

A PEW poll just showed that most Americans do NOT believe the debt limit should be increased.... I also feel that 9 trillion in new debt under Obama is more than enough.

Because one small faction in the House doesn't like it and has the power over the shutdown.
