Yeah it will run it but it wont be a great experience, I'd use XP with that machine, but I honestly wouldnt use that machine atm, its dated and you will have to get a new system soon.
Btw I wouldnt recommend using linux because if you dont know if that setup can run windows 7 you wont have fun with linux as you really have to have some advanced knowledge of computers imo, you can give it a go if you are curious though, i just wouldnt recommend it if you want to have something that works and not have to mess about with it too much

Your computer will run the latest september 2013 Linux operating system. You don't need to be a whizkid to use Linux, I install it on Pensioners computers and they love it because it faster than windows is,
Here is one Linux distribution that works like windows does. You can pick any windows desktop you like at the click of the mouse button, You can pick Vista, Xp, windows 7 or the Mac OS/x desktop,
go to this website and see for yourself how easy it is, do the tour of the system then you will see,

It can run windows 7 starter edition with no aero effects at all or animations. But to be safe I wouldn't install windows. I would choose a Linux distribution and go from there.
What exactly are you planning on using your pc for?
