what is the synonym ?

what word do you use for : to make something ( such as an idea, belief or a kind of behavior , )common among people.

is " promulgate" correct? do you know any synonym which is more common?

    Promulgate means make something widely known or issue an order/law. Propagate would be a better word.

    Advertise, announce, broadcast, circulate, communicate, declare, disseminate, make public, notify, pass the word, proclaim, promote, publicize, publish, spread.
