How would the Tea Party react if Obama did this?

Obama is already holding the nation, the budget, and the economy hostage, along with Reid. This is their shutdown, and they own it. Posting an opinion as a source of "fact," from the NY Times as well, is like a child molester linking to a NAMBLA website to support his argument.

For MONTHS, the house has passed budgets to where a CR isn't even needed... these are budgets that Harry Reid REFUSED to even bring up for a vote. That's all on him, and him-alone. Then, when you have this refusal to negotiate, being further pushed by a president who thinks of himself as being a king, sorry, buddy... but Obama and Reid OWN this shutdown. You can cry 2+2=3 all you want, but it doesn't make it so.

He did something similar to the Arizona Gov. when she displeased him by letting over a million illegals free from prison so this wouldn't faze me. He has the power to end this but he is more than willing to let this blame fall on the republicans even tho they aren't in total blame for it.

What Americans need to ask themselves is how the rest of the world is going to react to OUR financial systems being held to ransom by a dysfunctional political system in the USA.
