Did Russell Martin indirectly ...?
prove that the strike zone should STILL be up as high as the letters last night? He hit a pitch that was about shoulder high for an RBI single. Something that the announcers of the game thought was so astounding in itself that it ought to make umpires think that batters do legitimately have a chance at the high strike and thus it ought to be enforced as the baseball rule book intends.

Yogi Berra once hit a home run off a pitch that BOUNCED. So should bounced pitches be strikes?
Strike zone shoul be as the rule book says, of course.

Russell Martin is one of the old school type players.
One of the things they stress is, "See the ball, hit it"
Yogi Berra did and he had a long and extremely good hitting career. Pretty good catcher too.
In fact, he and Johnny Bench share the best catcher of all time honors.
The strike zone anyway is what the home umpire says it is. Most interpret the Rule Book as they see fit.
The players don't really care just as long as the ump is consistent during a game.

Aside from your question the TBS announcers are not that impressive. Russel Martin is a good hitter, he knows how, where, and when to hit the ball.
