The main purpose of an airsoft silencer is to protect the outer/inner barrel from harm. An airsoft silencer will NOT actually dampen the sound of the airsoft gun shooting, it only protects the barrel as an accessory. That being said, if you actually want a silencer that will dampen the sound, you will want to research and buy it custom made. It is expensive and not worth your time, as it will cost upwards of $200 for one and it won't quiet the gun too much.

So, with all stated above, yes, airsoft silencers are legal in the US, because they are technically just barrel extensions, and not real silencers. If you have any questions feel free to email me at ac3streamer@yahoo.com for more info.

Also, remember that airsoft guns are made to be realistic replicas of real firearms, so do NOT take your airsoft gun anywhere in public, and if you are playing in the woods or a backyard in an area where other people live, make sure to notify them before-hand about what airsoft is and where you'll be at all times. You don't want to get potentially shot by the police because they feel you have a real firearm. Be safe and God bless.

An airsoft silencer's original purpose is to hide the inner barrel of an airsoft gun, given that, the inner barrel is longer than the external barrel. An example of this is an airsoft pistol. Some airsoft players want to achieve extra accuracy and FPS on their airsoft pistol. One of the tuning methods for this is to have a longer inner barrel up to the point that it exceeds the length of the external barrel of the airsoft gun. With the protruding inner barrel very vulnerable from getting bent and damaged, an airsoft silencer (also known as mock silencer, fake silencer, or just barrel extension) is connected onto the existing external barrel. The airsoft silencer now houses the protruding section of the inner barrel.

Airsoft silencers must have an orange area (such as about 6mm long from the muzzle of the airsoft silencer) IF YOU PLAN TO SHIP AN AIRSOFT GUN WITH THE AIRSOFT SILENCER INSTALLED. Otherwise, the gun itself must have an orange tip and include the airsoft silencer in a separate box.

You cannot silence an airsoft gun with an airsoft silencer. The airsoft silencer is purely cosmetic, or as mentioned earlier, a means of housing a longer inner barrel. To silence an airsoft gun, such as an AEG, proper lubrication and shimming of the gearbox internals will do. An airsoft gas blowback cannot be silenced with an airsoft silencer because all the sound from the pressure of released gas comes from the blowback chamber which is on the rear end of the slide (or bolt for a blowback rifle).

i would recommend checking your local city/state laws. But i believe you can have a silencer as long as it has an orange tip.
