Good books on Alexander the Great?
I'm fascinated by Alexander the Great, and I already have the Mary Renault fiction books (and her 'biography' that reads like fiction at times) and Robin Lane Fox's biography. I also have the classics, like Arrian and such. I'm looking for a recommendation of a good biography written by modern authors that delves more into Alexander's character rather than just his military tactics. I like those books, but I have read enough about his campaigns.
Any good FICTION books starring Alexander would be a nice recommendation too. I've read Mary Renault's fiction, so don't say those.

The problem with books written about Alexander is that they are usually written by people who worship him. There are some more objective snippets about Alexander found in books by people like Colin Wilson and the Reformer Martin Luther. Luther found it ironic that Alexander conquered the Classical World only to drink himself to death in Babylon. Colin Wilson in 'A Criminal History of Mankind' says; 'When a Dreamer finds himself with an Army at his disposal, the results can be frightening and spectacular'. Like Luther, Colin Wilson believed Alexander drank himself to death.

There is a very good trilogy about Alexander by Valerio Massimo Manfredi, translated from the Italian.
