Can the doctors do anything for my one year old?

My daughter will be 1 in about 2 weeks and she has bad seasonal allergies I have taken her to the doctor twice and it been just from allergies. The first time I took her she was about 8-9 months old and she was coughing and choking on her mucus and they just said it was allergies and she moved a certain way and knocked the mucus loose and started draining and she panicked and her air ways were never blocked to just give her some Benadryl. Well anyway I can hear when she breaths like she has mucus in there and she has been coughing and choking on it today and I have been giving her Benadryl the last couple days and obviously it isn't helping! She sounds pitiful especially when she sleeps. Should I take her to the doctor and see if they can get her some prescription allergy medicine or something?

Update:

She's not wheezing and her nose isn't runny or anything. It's just like mucus in her throat I can hear when she breathes. Like congestion I guess. Thank you though... I will have to try that .

If she is wheezing take her to an urgent care center or ER for a breathing treatment. if she sounds congested, or stuffy put a vaporizer in her sleeping air, or hold her in a hot steamy bathroom for a few minutes. my husband suffers from sinus issues and that is one of the best things that helps him. I would call your child's doctor this week and see if he/she can refer her to an allergist or ENT to see what they can do for treatment. Allergies are so hard to treat in a child so young. hope she feels better.
