Do colleges discriminate against transfer students?

I'd like to apply to Temple University, but I probably won't be able to afford it. Community College makes a whole lot more sense for me... but I'm a bit worried.

When I transfer to Temple, would I have the same opportunities as incoming freshmen? Same access to cash, and access to internship opportunities. Basically all the stuff regular upperclassmen get. I feel that the people that run the college would pick someone who's been there for 2 years over me, just because I couldn't afford 2 years of that college.

Somebody help! Oh, and if you could add any more useful information....

thanks!

pretty much every school makes their best offers to incoming freshman who are new high school graduates -- taking a gap year means loss of fin aid & same thing with being a transfer student

many schools who make those fantastic "hook" offers to incoming freshman do not make those same offers in subsequent years... many times the funding is much less for a Senior who has been at the same school since Freshman than it was in their Freshman year

    this isn't discrimination

well they are already going to know some students. My daughter's boyfriend got two internship for the summer before his junior year and for junior year when he was a sophomore at his 4 year college. You are not going to be making those connections because you won't be there. It is not a matter of discrimination. You simply would not be there to be considered or to apply. Students already attending for two years could already know their professors in their major.

Many scholarships are for incoming freshman only. You would need to see what scholarships are open to transfer students.

some do but they wont admit to it. I know UC Berkeley does bc they want to get more money out of you by starting as a freshman. Some of the higher end universities will. Be careful, but don't be discouraged, I know a lot of transfers even with UCB, its just a little harder to get into it.
