If torture doesn't work why did Germans use it against the French Underground in WWII?

It did work. It worked very well. That's why resistence/terrorist groups break down into cells where 1 person don't know everything.

The thing people don't understand is that torture isn't the questioning process. The actual questioning process isn't much different than what is used in your run of the mill police investigations. The torture part just gets people to talk, after that it takes a very unusual or very prepared person to be able to stick to a consistent story under intense questioning.

They would have been very busy. Every French person I met from that era said they were in the French underground. Do you think they were telling the truth? LOL

If it worked, why was the French underground so successful at causing slow-downs and complete stoppages at some critical points in time?

First, it doesn't work for sure. Our heroes frequently gave false information even unto death. Even then, the Germans were obliterated and their leaders hanged because of these tactics, which all decent peoples despise.

Which is the main point, really. Torture is despicable. Those who advocate it are despicable. Those who use it are criminal. End of story.

well humanity had to realize that torture doesn't work before we stopped using it. That's one of the many unfortunate ways that we know that torture doesn't make people know things that they don't know.

Many so-called "soldiers" in the SS were truly psychopaths, by any definition of the word.

Remember, this was a government that killed millions of civilians solely for the purpose of killing them.

Germany was a country that had lost its sanity, and was being led by savages.

It does work. In fact, it is very effective, particularly when the terrorist knows you'll check his information and when you do, and find he was BS'ing you, he'll be back in the drink and you'll be harder to convince. But it should also be used with extreme decompression.

Using torture doesn't mean the info gathered was valid.

And you'll find hundreds of accounts of it not working when they used it.

Your mancrush on the nazis has come in conflict with reality.
