Can this sort of illness be fatal?

Ok. so this is probably stupid and i bet the answer is obviously yes but hey i figured i'd check into it somewhere... so, my dad hasnt exactly been ill, but he has not been feeling well at all. pretty much every night, later at night, he groans and coughs and heavily exhales. he always says something like "ah it must be somethin i ate at dinner." but i dont believe that anymore because its happening at least 5 days a week now. im mildly worried about my pop. he just can't stop farting at night. it sounds like skin rubbing on a leather surface. im just wondering if its possible to die from a fart attack.
