Shot, up until July 9th I would have said it wasn't worth owning. I've seen them at gunshows, in some stores, and heard all the horror stories about the quality. So here I am with over 40 years of firearms repair, modification, and design experience not giving high point a chance.

A buddy I hunt with comes by on the 9th and has 2 of the JHP in 45acp, says he wants to use my range and sight them in. I gave him some crap about buying them and long story short he had one sighted in with 22 rounds. Shoots a box and tells me these things will shoot anything and have a lifetime warranty; hmm, open challenge. So I tell him I bet it won't hold up and he hands me the other one, NIB and says go for it. I break out some Korean vintage ammo, some stuff made in Israel thats hot, and finally some handloads that I KNOW are hot. I put 750 rounds through that freakin thing, tried to over heat it, racked the trigger trying to make it stove pipe, and it kept going. It will hold a 2.5 inch group at 25 yards and almost a 4 inch group at 50 yards. I'm not a convert but I won't bash the things anymore.

BTW, I bought that thing off him and keep it in my mule as a quick to get to pistol on my farm, so far it's shot everytime I've needed it to and it hits what I aim at. Don't know if I'd buy another but I won't bash the one I have now. For the folks who have negative things to say, I'd ask if they have taken the time to give one a good workout .

great gun, solid value. virtually indestructible, accurate, simple, reliable.

I think the reason why people talk bad about them is:

1, they think if it doesn't cost $500 it's not good

2, they think an ugly gun can't be good. didn't their parents ever say not to judge a book by it's cover?

3, they don't like the grip

4, they don't like how it's ultra basic in design

5, they don't like how magazines hold 8 rounds

There's absolutely nothing really wrong- in terms of functionality- of the Hi Point. there's also nothing wrong with it's quality, it's a very well made gun that many people tried to break and failed.

That kinda depends on your definition of "a good gun"... I would not personally recommend a Hi-Point because I believe there are much better options available, if you can afford them. I don't own one myself.... But, after having said that I will go on to say that of the half dozen or so Hi Point pistols that are owned by people I know, no one has had any issues with them...so, they generally work... They just look and feel "clunky", and feel cheap and uncomfortable in the hand...and don't "feel" like a gun I could depend on.............. At least that's how they feel to me.

Depends on your definition of a 'good gun'.

If you dont care about accuracy, dont care that it is bigger and heavier than 2 or 3 regular guns in the same caliber, dont care that nobody makes decent holsters for it, dont care the trigger pull is horrible, sights are horrible and you only care that it can send a bullet out the barrel - well then, it is a good gun. If you dont care that it's only worth about $90 a week after you buy it, and, probably nobody will buy it used from you..... then it's still good, right?

If you are homeless, pennyless, living in a cardboard box in fear of your life and all you can afford is a HighPoint - then this is the gun for you.

If you can only spend $180.00 on a gun they beat throwing rocks. They are surprisingly strong for the price though. It's just they have horrible ergonomics and are huge for the amount of rounds they carry since they are blow back operated. The worst part about them is that they are made in that state to the south, who's name I shall not speak.

No. It's a value handgun meant for either poor people or cheap people. No one here is going to recommend it except the fanboys who bought one because they didn't want to spend the money and get something that didn't suck.

Everything about it is cheap and crappy. You will end up hating it and then trying to sell it but no one will buy it. Gun classified and backpage are usually filled with them.

No. Just give me the $200 and you will get just as much value.
