Edward II is thought to have had male lovers, James I of England famously had his 'favourites', William III was rumoured to be, as was Queen Anne. Philippe I, Duke of Orleans' homosexuality wasn't even kept a secret. The Queen's uncle, the Duke of Kent, was thought to be bisexual. There are many more, these are from the top of my head.

It's difficult to determine whether the royals thought to have been gay actually were. The notion sexual orientation (identifying as heterosexual, homosexual etc) is a relatively recent invention. Courtly customs of the time have to be taken into consideration and much of the supposed evidence is either scarce can be interpreted in a number of ways. Rumours were maliciously spread, as is thought to be the case with Queen Anne. Kings had a responsibility to reproduce and continue the royal line, gay or not. But there's no doubt that there have been gay royals throughout history.

    Gay Royalty

I think, traditionally, when a king is gay, he covers it up discreetly. He is usually married, and tries to have children, for the sake of the crown, though there have been some notable cases where a prince might have been known to have been gay, I don't think there has ever been a king that was openly known. Many have been impotent or sterile, leading to a change of lineage, but a gay king who did not have children because of that...I don't think it has happened since Roman times. (Caligula and maybe Nero). In today's more liberal climate, I think you might really mean "what would happen if a gay king wanted to be openly married to another man?" This, I'm pretty sure, wouldn't be likely to be allowed.
