My resting heart rate is really high?
I'm 13 years old, 5'2, 105 pounds. I get a normal amount of exercise because of gym class, and I take a fifteen minute walk to and from school. But my resting heart rate is 110 bpm...is that really high? And when I jog, my heart rate gets above 200 easily.

The average pulse rate for 13 yr old girls is around 87 beats/min, with a normal range of 67 to 107 beats/min. So your pulse rate is at the high end of normal. A rate of 200 when exercising is higher than it should be. The next time you visit your doctor, it might be a good idea to have a blood test scheduled a day or two before the office visit (so the doc can explain your results). A common cause of an elevated pulse is an iron deficiency, which is detected with a blood test. Another possible cause is an over active thyroid, which is also detected with a blood test. You can also have a pulse rate that is outside the normal range and be perfectly healthy. Pulse rates keep dropping until you reach your late teens or early 20s, so maybe your vascular system is developing more slowly than average.

I wouldn't worry about the 110. Normal is between 60-100
Do you drink a lot of caffeine drinks? That will increase your heart rate. Are you sure the rate goes over 200 or are you assuming because it will naturally beat faster when you exercise.?
To ease your mind, stop by the school nurse and tell her your concerns. I think you will be just fine.

medically, dr's consider over 100 high. Normally they will not treat the 110 especially your age. You dont want the treatment anyway. You probably want to concentrate on diet. CA and Mg especially important for cardiovascular. Dark leafy greens have this. Eat lots of them. Take Vitamin everyday. Glucosamine is reccomended by dr wallach for high heart rate; says a nerve could be pinched due to cartilage deficiency. Cut the fried food, sugar, lunchmeats. Probably gluten free is a good idea (gluten causes lots of problems for people never identified). Also work on your breathing. Make sure you are taking deep breaths throughout the day. Do deep breathing exercises and see if you can get heart rate down.

Its not really high, but is above normal. a resting bpm shouldn't be over 100, causes:
high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, caffeinated beverages, i highly doubt and hope you don't drink or smoke, electrolyte imbalance (normally hypokalemia) and the most obvious congenital (meaning birth defect) heart disease and other conditions or diseases that may cause abnormally high reading.
I'd let your parents and/or gym coach know, especially is you're having symptoms: lightheadedness, chest pain, heart palpitations (when your heart pounds really hard) or any you feel is out of the ordinary.
