Hamed avoided Barrera, who all people with any knowledge of boxing knew would thrash Hamed and he did. Muhammad Ali fought the best of the best ... and beat them all. When he was beaten he had an immediate rematch and put the record straight.

Muhammad Ali is the greatest boxer and greatest sportsman in the history of planet earth so there is no comparison especially with a big mouth like Hamed. he fought fighters he knew he could beat. I have never rated Hamed.

Ali averaged 16 stone in weight ....can you just imagine dancing around a boxing ring for 15 rounds - 6 foot 3 inches tall weighing 16 stone ?????? Even very fit athletes could not do that - then put someone in the ring who is trying to knock them senseless !!!!!!!! IMPOSSIBLE.

I had friends who were very fit ...put them on the heavy bag for 3 minutes and they were exhausted.

300 Million people tuned into the first Ali - Frazier fight ..... 300 MILLION !!!!!!!!

    Great question.

There are a number of reasons why ALI's trash talk stands out. Timing is the most telling reason. Here are a few.

    1. ALI invented trash talk at a time when it wasn't even called "trash" talk. He boasted mostly about his abilities, as compared to those of other heavyweights. He was honest and accurate and backed up his talk.

    2. ALI talked at a time when it was expected for Blacks to "know their place". Blacks didn't talk much in those days. Now they talk too much.

    3. See above. Can you name 10 black athletes, in any sport, who Don't talk? Trash talk is so over-done now. It wasn't liked by some when ALI did it but his is now appreciated compared to what we have to listen to today. Plus, you could understand what came out of ALI's mouth. The same can't be said about most who talk trash today.

    4. Some of ALI's talk was against the "establishment" who held many down, not just one group. Do any of these guys today even know what an "establishment" is? Doubtful.

    5. ALI heckled his opponents before a fight but praised them after. At least Mayweather was smart enough to adopt that. How many questionable decisions have Tim Bradley won? How often does he praise his opponent?

    6. Um, when ALI spoke, people listened.............then they watched him back it up. Win or lose, he always showed class. Today, we have guys like Devon Alexander. Can you stay awake during a Devon Alexander fight? His trash-talk should be illegal.

    7. Hamed's trash talk wasn't much better than many of the rest. However, he was a rarity. How many Yemen-Brits do YOU know?

    ALI backed it up.

Floyd backs it up and makes it entertaining.

Most of the rest are just imitators and should just shut up.

Muhammad Ali's stand against racism in the 1960s, his anti-war draft which became popular (after the My Lai Massacre) and he BEAT the best of the best!

Ali was mostly honest with his trash talk.

Simply because fans hate fighters who did much talking but cant back it up. Ali was willing to fight anyone who people would suggest and he beats them. Such was not the case with Floyd. Ali invented trash talking and he damn knows how to use it.

Ali during his prime was more hated than Hamed, Mayweather and Roy Jones combined

Its after he was passed his prime and shown vaulnrability and took the role of the underdog that he became a fan favourite and one of the most beloved people. Its easy to root for an underdog than it is to root for someone whos always expected to win dominately

I think its simple. Name all of the "big name" popular fighters from the Philippines. Now name all of the "big name" popular fighters from America. There are a lot more from America. In addition to that, America is a melting pot of people from all countries where as the Philippines isn't as diverse. People tend to be fans of fighters of the same or similar heritage, so where the Philippines is pretty much united supporting Pacquiao there are mixed opinions on all American fighters. Its not just Mayweather. Im sure that there is split opinions on Mosley, Pavlik, Paul Williams, Andre Ward, Hopkins, Roy Jones, etc. Smaller countries also tend to unite under their athletes because they don't produce as many elite famous athletes. I'm sure most of Ghana are fans of Joshua Clottey, but in America he isn't very popular.

Ali did most of it especialy when younger with a smile and glint in his eye , half joking half serious .

plus he showed thst he could really back it up when it got tough.....

chris eubanks was similar but at a lesser level ,not so much trash talk but many people didn't like his persona but you had to respect his will to win and strength against the odds at times .

Who else predicted the round in which the KO would take place? Ali's trash talking was an artform, not just lip service.
