how do decomposers make methane?

so i was told that under anaerobic conditions decomposers produce methane? A detailed clarification with some examples would be nice. and how does this contribute to the carbon cycle.

    combustion of methane is exothermic reaction.

    HOWEVER, the second law of thermodynamics states that the energy travels from hotter body to colder one, not vice versa. so you're there on a wobbly edge there, with water condensation transporting energy to the original compounds
