How do I dye a white sweater just a tiny bit?

My white cotton sweater is a bright white, and I want to tone it down a bit -- not beige or gray, but just a softer white -- a cream tone, not too yellow or brown. Do you have suggestions on how to do this, and avoid making it too dark?

Put tea bag in a hot bath. the more water the lighter the color. let it sit until its the color you want.

Use a little bit of dye instead of the whole package. There are also dyes that are described as "tea dye", meant to give a pale tan colour. You could test ahead of time with some other white fabric, and if in doubt then use less dye rather than more. It's easy to dye it again if it isn't dark enough, not as easy to remove dye if it's too dark.

better check the fabric content of sweater as if it is not cotton, it will not hold color alteration at all.
