Remedies/solutions for snoring?

I know this question has been asked by hundreds (if not millions) of people world wide. However, everyone is different. Anyway, I'll cut to the chase. I've known that I've been a snoring for several years now at the very least and apparently I used to snore i guess somewhat quietly (according to my family). 8 years ago, back in high school, when I got my braces off one lady commented (I guess you could call her an orthodontist specialist) that there was a space in between my bite from where my teeth should meet. She said this is caused by me apparently sticking my tongue out when I sleep to help open up my air way (I thought that was bizarre that she'd know that at the time). Well I must still be doing it today because my snoring has gotten worse, and it seems to get worse when in an outdoor area (I have no idea why).

Snoring itself can be embarrassing, but so long as its quiet, it normally wouldn't disturb most of us. Well my snoring is really bad. Apparently it's so bad that I snore VERY loudly now, especially when outdoors. While vacationing in Australia this year I participated in a sports event where our team stayed in an indoor cricket practice area for the 3 nights during the event. The indoor area is quite spacious and could house a lot of people. Well the group was apparently at least half the size this year as it was last year. Anyway, to the point, because this years group was so small that meant even more empty space in the room. Well I don't need to tell you that a bigger space means a bigger echo and any sound that was created there was pretty multiplied x10. Well I snored. Very LOUDLY, as someone put it. I probably kept some people up, that's how embarrassing it is. The thing is, I took Allegra D, a decongestant to help with nasal swelling and any mucus that could cause a stuffy nose and even blew my nose before bed and while I got up during the night to try and prevent or at the very least, lessen the severity of my snoring. Apparently that has worked before, but not this time it seems. When I heard about it I wanted to jet pack out of there. Even when I went camping with friends I opted to sleep in my sisters jeep so that A, I wouldn't keep anyone up if I thrashed about and B, more importantly so that I wouldn't keep anyone up with my snoring. That's how bad it's gotten. I can only pray that I don't snore loudly when I sleep outside..I also sleep on my side, but that doesn't stop me from rolling onto my back when I'm asleep.

I don't think the nasal strips will help as they'll do the same thing as the decongestant and I can't try the mouthgaurds that apparently help with snoring because I wear a retainer every night and it's useless to wear it every other night just for a snore guard. I've heard singing lessons can help with snoring, but if I'm not getting enough air, is there any way that I can prevent this nightly embarrassment?

i also go to a chiropractor that uses torque release techniques and that's helped improve my breathing but not with snoring. I usually wake up once during the night but when I do I don't feel like i'm suffocating and i'm not coughing, so I don't think I actually stop breathing. I also have a medium build for a body type but not over weight either. I'm just not a natural toothpick. Hope this helps. If anyone has any answers that'd be great. I'd love to know why I can't get enough air, and I"m aware of the muscles that relax and cause the tongue to go to the back of the throat. Thanks!

I hear ya It does sound like you have Sleep Apnea I suffered with this for a very long time and yes it woesn't very nice for the people around me but there are ways to stop It altogether...and yes singing can help as crazy as it sound.

Just about everyone snores occasionally, but if snoring happens frequently it can affect the quantity and quality of your sleep and that of your family members and roommates. Snoring can lead to poor sleep and daytime fatigue, irritability, and increased health problems. If your snoring keeps your partner awake, it can also create major relationship problems. Thankfully, sleeping in separate bedrooms isn’t the only remedy for snoring. There are many other effective solutions available.

Not all snoring is the same. In fact, everyone snores for different reasons. When you get to the bottom of why you snore, then you can find the right solutions to a quieter, deeper sleep.

People who snore often have too much throat and nasal tissue, or “floppy” tissue that is more prone to vibrate. The position of your tongue can also get in the way of smooth breathing. Evaluating how and when you snore will help you pinpoint whether the cause of your snoring is within your control or not. The good news is that no matter how and when you snore, there are solutions to making your snoring better.

There are so many bizarre anti-snoring devices available on the market today, with more being added all the time, that finding the right solution for your snoring can seem like a daunting task. Unfortunately, many of these unusual devices are unproven or work by simply keeping you awake at night. There are, however, plenty of proven techniques that can help you eliminate snoring. Not every remedy is right for every person, though, so it may require some patience, some lifestyle changes, and a willingness to experiment with different solutions.

The first step to solving a snoring problem is to find the cause of your snoring. Enlist your non-snoring sleep partner to help you keep a sleep diary to monitor your snoring. Observing patterns in your snoring can often help pinpoint the reasons why you snore, what makes it worse, and how to go about stopping your snoring.

You will have to change your lifestyle such as lose weight. Losing even a little bit of weight can reduce fatty tissue in the back of the throat and decrease or even stop snoring.

Exercise can also help to stop snoring. Working out to tone your arms, legs, and abs, for example, also leads to toning the muscles in your throat, which in turn can lead to less snoring.

Quit smoking. If you smoke, your chances of snoring are high. Smoking causes airways to be blocked by irritating the membranes in the nose and throat.

Avoid alcohol, sleeping pills, and sedatives, especially before bedtime, because they relax the muscles in the throat and interfere with breathing. Talk to your doctor about any prescription medications you’re taking, as some encourage a deeper level of sleep which can make snoring worse.

Establish regular sleep patterns. Create a bedtime ritual with your partner and stick to it. Hitting the sack in a routine way together can help you sleep better and often minimize snoring.

I hope that has helped if you did find this helpful you may want to check out my blog i did you will find more helpful advice on how to cure your snoring

As you sleep the throat relaxes and blocks the airway causing snoring no amount of decongestant will help that . You need to see a sleep specialist and get a C-PAP machine which gently forces air into your throat to keep your airway open . You do not notice the air as they adjust the pressure to suit you , but wearing a mask at night can take a little getting used to . But you do in about a month, and now with me I can not even get to sleep without it . I get better rest and as I am a heart patient also it helps me keep cardiac health as constant snoring is an indicator of sleep apnea where you actually stop breathing , and your body recognizes this as you sleep and sends a jolt of adrenalin out to wake you so you start breathing again although this happens you will not be conscience of waking . This is hard on your heart as you can actually stop breathing as in my case 60 times an hour , once a minute. That is a lot of jolts of adrenalin to go to your body and heart. For your health's sake see a doctor and you should start to get restful sleep once again.

When you lie flat, it is possible that your position changes the direction of the air flow in your throat. While standing, you may not notice the difference in air flow even if you take a nap in the sitting position.

There are dental appliances you wear in your mouth at bedtime that can change the position of your neck and throat. Persons who are overweight suffer with snoring more than other people. An artist's drawing may show a piece of tissue in the line-of-fire that moves back and forth that vibrates when you breathe causing snoring.

Go to Google and search for "mouthpieces to prevent snoring."

    Good Luck.

i tried everything to help my husband stop snoring, nothing over the counter helped, i finally sent him to a doctor (neurologist) who had him do a sleep study. sure enough he has sleep apnea, which is where the flap in your throat covers, the wind pipe and he snored like hell, more importantly he stop breathing until he moved, which in point interupped his sleep pattern, he has been put on a cpap machine, that keeps the air flow, no snoring, and he feel so much better.. perhaps this is a signal you should take a look into, my info says if you do not treat sleep apnea it can cause major health issues. hope this helped
