How do I change the info on a microchip?

On one of my dogs, my old vet did the implanting. Since then I have moved. I don't even know what info is on the chip.

My other dog has a microchip that was put in by her rescuer's vet, registered to her. We don't even live in the same area. About 8 hours apart.

How do I update these?

The microchip implanted into our pets is a "READ ONLY" device and once programmed at the factory cannot be changed. All that is on the chip anyway is a file number for a file that is kept by a central station where the chip originated from.

To change information on your pet merely contact the chip supplier and they will change your information on their servers.

go to a vet, get the chip scanned and write to the register with your vets' stamp and signature providing the new information. This will update the information connected to the chip number on their system. There is no need to change the info "on" the chip, it is all connected to a computerised register. At least that's how it works in Europe anyway...

You can get the form online if you know the brand of chip - the vet can tell you when they scan. Both you and the old owner have to fill it in and sign, and you post it back.
