Why did George Washington decide not to make a speech announcing his retirement....?

...and instead chose to have the announcement printed in a newspaper?

-why or why not was writing a newspaper article instead of a speech appropriate for this occasion

Washington never felt comfortable speaking under any circumstances, mainly because it was physically painful for him to talk with his ivory teeth held in place with metal springs. He also was a man of action not words. Washington was always precise in how he looked and his speaking was not one of his strengths. So a letter was not surprising when he left office.

Its possible he felt that to much of a threat or bother to himself or others, and chose another means available to communicate it. He could have had an interest in the business, and since the newspaper probably sold out, made a nice profit on it.

he wanted to sort of disconnect from society, there's someone odd with what he did. We can see he refused the power he would have been recieved if he stayed in the ranks but then again no one knows why he did it, all we can see is that he didnt want dramas, therefore ejected himself while no one was looking
