I need a song for my solo performance at GCSE (Guitar)?

My teacher said I should really try to do something at that level to get a A/A*, but I would like to do a song I will know like something by David Bowie or Gerry Rafferty or something more recent. I haven't decided whether it will be on an electric guitar or an acoustic but really need some ideas to choose from.

Thanks to any one who can help.

What about something from the Prog Rock era - Kevin Ayers, Traffic, Frank Zappa, Neil Young, that sort of thing. Or, maybe something a bit darker & moodier - Nick Drake, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Alison Moyet...

  • Sounds as if you don't have a repertoire of songs you play on a regular basis yet, in which case you obviously want to choose the ones you'll enjoy for years to come, as I doubt your also singing maybe something with a very recognizable tune, many Beatles tunes have this luxury, and lets not forget Led Zeppelin, if you cant figure out its Stairway to Heaven someone's trying to play within the first 3 notes your tone deaf, Pink Floyd's Wish you were here is another one of those songs, you know what it is right away. but that's just a small example, there's thousands of songs out there that fit that criteria, depending on your skill level something you made up will suffice.

Wonderwall. It takes you ages to figure out a similar strumming pattern, seriously, so they moderators (if they know anything about Oasis and guitars) will know how tricky it must have been. Or maybe The Importance Of Being Idle, though I'm not sure if that is acoustic. I haven't listened to it in years.
