China cabinet relocation & protection?

I am relocating my Thomasville, wood w/glass shelves china cabinet into the garage...Maybe for a couple of years. I'm going to TRY and protect it from harm (it's in mint condition, though 40 years old) Do I throw a sheet over it insofar as general dust/deterioration? Would a kingsize microfiber blanket be better? -Or do I buy some type of velveteen fabric at a yardage store and throw it over? What type of "cover" would BEST protect it? -I realize gar. temps can go from 30 degrees to 80 in my area...I really have no choice right now but to do this. Suggestions? Many thanks...

I've not done that, but would likely pop in a few insect and rodent killers, then shrink-wrap with supplies from like U-Haul. BUT: get it off the floor! Park on at least some boards, or a home-made pallet to fit, to prevent a damp and damaged base. Glass shelves should be removed and boxed/wrapped up. Plan B (which I have done): sell it while in it's best condition, take the money, and roll.

There are many concerns when storing furniture in a garage & two I can think of right away are wood eating pests such as termites and woodworm and anything that can be pushed against it breaking glass etc.I would try to get some type of carton/crate in which to store it and put pest control spray or powders around the bottom of the box/crate as well as draping it in a protective blanket or old quilt before sealing it.

I like the cardboard box idea. I never considered pests, though.

Source(s): you can tell this is a real question.
