Need help with gemstone compatibility?

I am looking to get some jewellery with gem stones for various reasons. I've looked at the properties a quite a few and picked the ones I like. However I'm not sure if they're compatible. There are so many aspects and they all seem to conflict on some level. I am looking at obsidian, malachite, tiger's eye and moonstone. Are these compatible? If so which ones? Will they still work it they aren't? And can I wear more than one at a time?

I am aware that for a lot of people this may seem like a stupid question. There is no need to point it out. Thank you

Update:

To those who aren't sure what I mean, some people (myself sort of included) believe that certain gemstone are associated with certain properties. While it's easy to scoff at gems holding any kind of magick, there is some evidence for the value of belief and the psychological associations (colours for example have measurable psychological effects on mood etc.). I just want to make sure that these associations don't conflict. And I thought that fact that this is under spirituality and religion made is kind of obvious that I wasn't talking about chemical properties but sorry for any confusion.

Of the four, Tiger's Eye is the oddball, but could be balanced.

    Read on:

Malachite is said to be a balancer; it should work no matter what. That's to be expected: Its green is center-spectrum. It can be placed anywhere.

Tiger's Eye shares many qualities with ruby, in that it has a certain spirit of the Sun, so to speak. It is a projective stone. If you're going to pair it with others, keep it on your projective (dominant) side. Make it your sword.

Obsidian is a shield of reflection in both senses of the term. If used simultaneously with Tiger's Eye, I recommend putting it on your receptive (non-dominant) side. Make it your shield.

Moonstone is one of the strongly receptive stones useful to those seeking to enhance subtle perception (not unlike amethyst). Definitely keep it away from the Tiger's Eye, too.

You like the same kinds of gemstones I do!! They are muted (not bright) and they look deep and rich. They are soft to the eyes. You are not talking about the spiritual properties, are you? I think maybe you are. I don't think too much about that yet. I make jewelry and I just go for colors that harmonize. Moonstone is off white (actually it can come in pink and brown, too) so it will go with Tiger Eye and Malachite. And obsidian, too. And since obsidian is black, it tends to go with the other three as well. I generally don't combine those soulful soft dark stones with sparkly stones or colorful glass. Any kind of metal of course would be nice. I get a feeling of the ancient-ness of the earth, and how these stone might have been created before man even appeared, I feel a sense of awe of all creation when I see these kinds of wonderful stones. And of course, Tiger Eye and Moonstone sometimes have a wonderful schiller, you know, that subtle flash you can see when you turn the stone. It is often caused by Feldspar running through the stone.

Other kinds of rock running through gemstones can also picks up the light and reflects it back, or other effects.

Here is a website you can read about all kinds of different effects that are inside stones.

    http://geology.about.com/od/gems/tp/gemeffects.htm

I make jewelry and there is nothing more satisfying that taking one of those stones you like, one that has been polished and/or carved, and making it into the pendant on a necklace also made with other stones, all strung together in a design. I'm not talking about being a silversmith, just a bead-stringer!!

I might study the metaphysical properties of stones some day. Sure other people might think the question is "stupid," but if you have the gift of loving these beautiful romantic stones that tell the story of how the Earth was formed and what it went through, like WE do, then they would not think so, they would understand the thrill.

  • I love rocks! I would research the kind of energy each one is inhabited with and make my decision from there.

Tiger's Eye would look superb with Obsidian. Because Malachite is mostly green with pinstripes of black, this would also look good with Obsidian. Moonstone is a cloudy array of color, so it's difficult to say. But I would think your best combination would be the Obsidian and Tiger's Eye, because they are both hard stones. :D

    Peace and Blessings

*Thank you Tadashi! I learned something I didn't know about these "Rocks"! :D

The best and most compatible match for a Libra is a Aquarius because the relationship will last for ever.

It might help if you point out who this question is directed at. I presume it is directed more at gypsies / shamans / spiritual people than at jewellers, I'm interested to know what you expect from these jewels.

They are all rocks. Of course they are compatible. They all came from the same planet.
